Let me preface this post by saying, I don't know anymore about football than most of the rest of you.

But I'm baffled we're still having this discussion. I can't begin to understand how anyone wants David Carr back next season as the starting quarterback. I seriously can't begin to understand it. I've been through the arguments a million times, so I won't bore you with them. I just don't get it.

Oh, I don't. I think one of the biggest measures of a QB is how he does when everything is not going his way. But I can't deny the fact that Carr does well when things go his way or blame the Texans' struggles all on him. I don't want or expect him back next year, but I would be shocked if he doesn't go to better team and look really good.

    Thanks.

I personally want Carr gone if for no other reason than because I'm DOG TIRED of reading the arguments on this bbs and hearing them on talk radio. I'm all "Carr'd out". Is he the most devisive sports figure in Houston sports history?

I hope the Texans are watching the Liberty Bowl tonight with their pens and notepads...

5 years of Carr vs. 1 year of Vince. I'll go with Carr.

the VY thing isn't going away anytime soon. Carr will be.

and frankly, Carr hasn't been a big dividing point except during the past 2 seasons.

So you hope. Personally, I'm over it. It's gotten kind of silly now.

I'm excited to see how Mario plays when he's finally at 100% next year. Also excited to see what we do with our 1st Casserly-less draft. Excited to see Spencer come back and develop into our LT of the future. Excited to see DeMeco turn into a perenial Pro Bowler.

Things are looking up for the Texans, even without Vince.

That's just not possible, ima_drummer2k. You know that. The only way for the Texans to ever be a successful franchise was to draft VY. We're doomed forever and ever and ever.

The point is...in his rookie season, VY looks like what those of us "freaks" said he would look like in his 3rd season. I never anticipated this so quickly out of VY, and I'm among his biggest fans here. You can be over it...but I promise you, you will hear about it throughout this city for years to come. Which is my whole point about our whole "most divisive player in Houston" thing.

I agree things are looking up for the Texans. Truthfully, they don't have anywhere to go but up. Kinda like last year. They still have some big changes on the way, though. They still need to address some very key components. I don't think improvement is a given. But I can definitely see the defense improving.

Vince Young is doing two things quite well:

    1. His team is winning with him as the starting QB, at times because of him and at other times, in spite of him.
    2. He has run extremely well.

If you expected his passing stats to be where they are today in his 3rd year, then he will be a disappointing QB (as the third pick in the 2006 draft) in 2008.

I didn't think this guy would be starting this season...at all.

Instead, he's been the QB of a team that's won something like 8 of his last 10.

His passing is clearly improving. You don't need to look past his passer rating the past 5 games to see that. He's not making a ton of mistakes in the air. He's not hurting them with his learning curve. Of course he struggled initially. I'm saying he's developing far quicker than I would have thought. Most times when you have a rookie QB you say, "eh...well, let's be patient. we can wait to win." The folks in Tenn aren't saying that with VY.

VY's biggest fans and biggest critics reside right here in H-Town. I stand by my original point...he's the most divisive figure in Houston sports.

His passing rating during their 6 game winning streak has been:

    66.7
    107.9
    72.6
    73.6
    70.1
    127.7

His team is winning, which is the most important thing, but as a QB (passing wise), he is still a rookie and is still erratic and inconsistent and if you would expect his overall rating to be less than 70 during the 2008 season (since you did say that he is playing in 2006 the way you expected him to play in 2008), then you had pretty low expectations of him.

VY is just what he is, and he is playing like I thought he would.
What gets me the most is ESPN, Houston Media, ALL the NFL experts COULD NOT see 'IT'.

Totally baffles me. I have been watching football for 45 yrs on TV and I cannot remember a better prospect coming out of college unless it was Jim Brown.

I really do not understand how people could have had doubts about VY at all with a straight face, but I watched it on TV for the months leading up to the draft and just gagged.

I wouldn't trust half of the NFL GM's to draft for me. I have used a mock draft each season on the Texans since they started and I have beat them hands down on picks.

I really can understand Houston and New Orleans passing on VY- Houston has not shown the ability to draft well and New Orleans had Breese. But what puzzles me is why he wasn't rated at the top of everyone's draft board.

But he's not divisive because of who he is, he's divisive because people can't get over the fact that he's not a Texan nor will ever be one. And it's caused people to taunt or troll to get reactions out of Texans fans who have gotten over it.

That's great. I don't hear too many people arguing that VY hasn't played above what even his biggest fans expected. But instead of whining about the past, I choose to look towards the future. Rehashing a mistake in a draft over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over won't change it. Ever. I swear.

I haven't followed the Texans much at all since I moved from Houston in 1999. But I came down for the holidays and got tickets for the Browns game. So, as part of everything, I did a little research on them. Basically, their record has been 4-12 (expansion year), 5-11, 7-9, 2-14, and 6-10 (yes, they are going to win Sunday).

So the question I have is, why exactly are so many fans in an uproar? Granted, last year was horrible and this year could have been better, but it's only been 5 years. Is that how impatient some of us have become as fans? I understand other expansion teams have achieved success sooner, but I'm just looking at it from a solo standpoint. I don't think 4 years is enough to go spastic about how bad the Texans are (first year doesn't count). I can understand being disappointed, but "Texans are horrible?" I don't get it.

I'm just glad that I get to see NFL football again in Houston- and in the next few years, when the Texans start making the playoffs on a regular basis, we'll all forget about this inaugural period.
