wait...carr sucked today. but losman saw nowhere near the same kind of pressure that carr did. losman is certainly a better runner than carr...i won't deny that. but the texans seem to have unimpeded defenders running at the QB all the time. i've never seen anything like it on any level of football. i had hoped that mckinney would be right...that another year together for the OL to get down the new scheme down would be a big improvement. didn't show itself to be that way today. they don't block well for the pass...they don't block well for the run. the sorts of holes that Bills' RBs were seeing simply don't exist for the texans.
Texans get their arse kicked and the Astros lose today and lose 2 of 3 to the stinking Brewers with Oswalt and Clemens pitching. THIS SUCKS! I fear the Texans have taken a step back this season...it's obvious when they don't address the O line and give crappy Chester Pitts an extension. They release Swinton, who is a helluva lot better at returning kicks than Morency and might be a better receiver than Bradford. They cut Glenn to make room for Buchanon, who stinks (or the Raiders would not have let him go). They get rid of a sure handed Billy Miller, who can't block...buy hey...nobody on the team can block anyway. And Steve McKinney is a joke as the center. I've never thought he deserved to be the anchorman on the line...he stinks and was never a center for that reason. The ONLY positives out of this game was Chris Brown was 1/1 on PAT. and they only have 15 more agonizing games left. I can't wait for Rocketball.....
David Carr is turning out to be steve francis. He will put up some stats but he keeps making some bad decisions. I just wish he could at least become an all star like francis was, but it looks like he won't. The Texans need to draft Vince Young to play QB. I know VY isn't a great passer and isn't Vick in terms of pure speed, but with no o-line we need someone fast.
Carr just never struck me as having a good feel for the game. The side stepping defenders is a good example. He never does it. He either takes off and runs in a straight line or he takes the sack. I remember one game a couple of years ago and the Texans had a chance to win and Carr threw a ball to a running back and he threw it so hard it bounced off the guy's shoulder pads. It was like a five yard pass and everyone could see he put way too much arm into the throw. Its not decision making to me as much as it is just a feel for the game. Maybe the sacks he's taken has given him happy feet.
This team is just going the wrong direction, and it starts at the top. Coming in to this years draft we needed O line help and some sort of passrush support. We basically ignored both and drafted a DT instead, where we had more depth than all positions except DB's. Casserly has to be held responsible for this crappy draft. The truth is the same as it has been since day one, David Carr can't play. He makes horrible decisions under pressure, reminding me of Warren Moon when the pocket collapses. I admit the dude has to be punchdrunk. With a O Line like his, and his sack total for the past 3+ years, I understand some of his suckness. The USC QB would be a good option to get someone that could be the playmaker we need to lead this team. We need some huge changes and the ahsskicking we are gonna get this year will probably expedite the process.
Vince Young makes silly mistakes (two of them last night) with the best offensive line in the nation in his sport. His passing isn't NFL-caliber (yet) to start with, and you want to combine that with possibly the worst offensive line in league history so that he has only one or two seconds to make his decisions? I'm sure that's going to turn out well. Build the offensive line. Sign a young OL in free agency. Take one high in the draft. The quarterback position is completely, completely irrelevant until that is taken care of.
Finding excuses for David Minivan, is like finding dingleberries in your butt. They all stink, and they aren't worth anything. The fact is; David's true calling was that of a male w****/prostitute. Lord knows he'd have plenty of groupies there, judging by the absolution I see about him on a daily basis in these forums. Please put Carr back in the garage. His oil's leaking.
this is the point a few here are making. warren moon is an all-pro QB and a possible HOF. he couldn't perform with a sucky OL, either. when he had a great OL, he was un-freaking real.
The USC quarterback is playing with one of the top five offensive lines in the country and the best collection of skill positions players and depth that the sport of college football has ever seen. Tell me, how do you think he's going to play when he gets under this pressure? And who makes good decisions when they have the amount of time that Carr had today?
I completely understand what you said and that's why I questioned why did they not address the O Line in the offseason. Just because the deal w/ the Rams lineman didn't work out they decide to just blow the problem off and draft a DT?? Even with a weak draft of O Line prospects, I know they would have been better than what we have lined up this afternoon. Sure Carr is under tremedous pressure, but he hasn't shown flashes of being a decent QB IMO. The interceptions in triple coverage, the inconsistancies even against the weak teams, etc. show a consistant pattern of not getting it done.
He's shown more than flashes, imo. He was in the top half of QBs in the league in rating last year... that's more than decent. He tore apart weaker opponents, but even the weaker teams still get some pressure on him due to the offensive line. What I'd like for some of you to understand is that in order to take chances downfield, he's going to have to throw into double and triple coverage sometimes. Most teams take their chances when the opposition blitzes a safety or corner and the quarterback realizes the secondary has one less member. Teams don't have to do that against us until we get an offensive line, so they're free to double Andre all day until we start protecting. It sucks, but the reality is that almost every big play Andre makes this year he'll have to do by outjumping a couple of defenders in a jump ball type scenario. It may look on the surface like a bad decision by Carr, but it's the only way to even give Andre a chance in games like today.
OL problems or not, some of the issues with the team definitely relate to Carr. Under pressure, he doesn't seem to have the mental ability to know when to throw it, when to take a sack, how to avoid interceptions, etc. Personally, I think the main coaching staff should have been fired last year. If today wasn't an indication that the team is almost always outcoached, I don't know what is. I mean the freaking announcers were piling on, and these are the type of guys who never call something crappy - they usually revert to, as they eventually did at the end of the game, cliches - "Back to the drawing board." Twice punting when you probably should have gone for it on 4th down. Constant runs on first down. Running out the end of the first half. Once again, this coaching staff is playing not to lose (and clearly not to lose their jobs), and it ends up costing the team. I'm going to start voicing my displeasure with the team the only way a fan truly can - stop caring. I just don't have the energy to care about the Texans like I did/do about the Rockets, even when they sucked.
This team is so frustrating to watch. For three years we have known that the O-line is the big problem, and we have still yet to fix it. i know the Boselli gamble blew up in our face, and we tried to get Orlando Pace but we need to do better than this. It could very well be a long season
As soon as Jerome Mathis is back, I hope the Texans throw down the field to him. At least just throw it period. Why did we resign Corey Bradford if we don't even throw it to him? It doesn't make sense.
My quote said "losman was pressured too". I never said he was pressured the way carr was, but he saw some pressure and the way he handled the pressure was night and day different than the way Carr handled it.
Corey Bradford is horrible. He complains he doesn't get the ball and when he does, he can't catch it. He is the worst route runner I may have ever seen. Hopefully when Mathis comes back, he starts because IMO he is better than Gaffney and Bradford.
I know we built a foundation for the future (carr, johnson, robinson, etc.) but these guys aren't getting any younger. We're going to get stuck in mediocrity for the next 10 years if we don't start playing with an edge?!? i can't believe we punted with only 3 inches on 4th. They have no confidence in the offense whatsoever. In 4 years i've seen the same boring thing and have not seen any improvement. Give the coaches the ax because the texans are starting to look like the new clevland browns..................
This team has ZERO heart. What an embarrassing performance. If I were attending the game next Sunday I'd boo the hell out of the players as soon as they step onto the field. Pathetic.
The bottom line is that there has never ever ever ever been a successful team in the NFL that didn't have at least an average offensive line (and even then... most of them have really good lines). You guys can fire whoever you want, and complain about Carr all you want... but this team can't ever be decent unless its line plays at least AVERAGE. And if all of you who want Carr gone think that the o-line is not the biggest problem on this team, or that he should be able to perform well all the time despite this o-line... basketball season cannot come faster for you guys because you have no CLUE what you're talking about. So... in the end... maybe its the coaching, maybe its because Carr doesn't take them out to the strip clubs enough, or maybe its just because there is absoultely no talent on the o-line (and if there isn't, why we are extending contracts over there right now is beyond me).... whatever the reason, this team cannot win on days that the o-line does not play at least average football.
