One thing is for sure, you have to work for your O-Line just like your O-Line has to work for you. Right now, Carr isn't getting good protection, but Carr is also taking a lot of time back there and seems 1-2 seconds slow on his decision making. Good protection or not, passing for under 100 yards w/ 2 interceptions is just about as bad as you can get. It's easy to blame a single factor, but the truth is that we are not a good team. We have an unbelievable receiver in AJ, I think it would be very wise for the Texans to start looking for ways to fully use him, 3 catches for 18 yards isn't enough. I know it's early, but I'm kinda getting sick of the pretty boy image Carr is putting out. It was cool his first couple years, but he needs to show something NOW.
My evidence that the line isn't that bad is a fourth rounder rushed for 1000 yards twice, in less than 12 game. Ladies and Gentlemen of the jury, the prosecution rests.
Manning is a freaking statue... if he was here, he could literally have a gun for his arm and it would make no difference. At least Carr is somewhat mobile... which actually helps to improve those audacious sack #'s that are already there. So in reality, if we had a classic pocket statue passer with nothing but a quick release... the o-line #'s could be even worse.
This all goes back to the stupidity that was taking a QB qith the number one overall pick for an expansion team. Carr has done nothing but get beat down since he came into the league. This is not to defend Carr because he does make his share of stupid decisions but the team would have been much better served to have taken some lineman and stuck a stiff behind them until they gelled and learned to block..... whatever though, this is stupidity. The Texans and their 103 total yards of offense to this point of the game can go F#*$ themselves. /I can handle a Home team loss or a fantasy team loss but not both, I'm going McDonalds to drown my sorrow in a Premium Chicken Sandwich, French Fries LG. Coke and Apple Pie. TUCK the FEXANS!
Run blocking... pass blocking.... i'm sure they're exactly the same thing. yea... you got a great case.
I agree with your takes in this thread pgab. Carr may have the physical skills to be a franchise qb, but right now he's nothing more than a mediocre one. It's looking like the front office and coaching staff need to be swept out.
Why does it seem that three out of every four plays are a Carr scramble for four yards. Let's draft Marcus Vick opr Vince Young and go to an option oriented offense; yeah, that's the ticket!!!!!
I think a big problem with this offense is David Carr does not make nearly as many adjustments as he needs to once he gets gets to the line. A huge part of the job description of a quarterback is reading the defense BEFORE the snap. You have to be able to recognize where the defense is coming, who's going to blitz, what areas the defense is going to leave open, etc. David Carr does a horrible job of this. He seems to always be caught by surprise. If Payton Manning were here, he wouldn't get sacked or rushed nearly as much as Carr.
Ok, well umm.... How about Bret Favre... In the last three years he's been sacked 57 times, at an average rate of 19 sacks per year Like I said before, I am not saying Carr is the greatest QB to be, or that he will ever be great stand-out QB, rather I am just saying that more time in a well developed pocket and less time on your back, or running for your, life would have to equate to better production.
"Prognosis: Negative" Okay, I'll get off Carr's back. I will just say, wait for a better game before you guys defend him up and down. Also, I would like to point out that I said the Bills will be a very good team if they got good qb play. This was not an easy game for the Texans.
This entire thread is the perfect example of how the QB gets too much credit... but also gets all the blame. You want an example of a QB who can look great/awful based on his line in the current NFL... what about Drew Brees. This guy was given up for dead, had his replacement drafted, and was on his way out of SD.... and all of a sudden he decides to become a Pro Bowl QB? No... they get a new LT in Roman Oben, a new guard in Mike Goff... and all of a sudden, they're no longer the worst team in the NFL (but a playoff team, at that). Yes... it can actually be that simple to get offensive execution... o-line, o-line, o-line. Name one quality starter on the Texans o-line... there is none. I'm willing to dismiss Casserly, the coaches, and whoever else you want who is responsible for this.... but I refuse to get caught up and force arguments against Carr when its not addressing the MAIN problem.
That Losman dude has a kinda effeminate voice...wonder how he sounds like in the huddle. Our O-Line sucks but Carr's body language tells me he's kinda accepted that he'll be sacked alot and is going into tuck and dive into turf safety mode when the defensive guy is still a couple feet away when Car could still buy some time and do something. He is slowly becoming Vinny Testaverde where he has the talent but the losing molds him into a just-another-journeyman QB passing through the league.
