Yes, he was overpaid, but yes he was indeed a position of need.

That being said, I would have signed Brian Dawkins or even Darren Sharper. I think what Dawkins would have brought to this locker room and especially this young core of defensive players would have been invaluable. Oh well...

Based on how much the Texans always overpay for FA, I get the feeling we're just not an attractive destination for free agents in general.

I personally don't mind overpaying a guy. I just want to make sure he doesn't suck, like our previous signings have generally been.

You already know the Texans have that dumb rule where they dont sign players as old as Sharper. Couldnt understand why we didnt atleast try to sign the guy when we got all that trash in the secondary. All he does is makes plays his entire career. If he can play then he can play. Wouldnt care how old he is.

I am guessing but they rank the front seven higher need then the secondary. After all a good pass rush can make a secondary look spectacular while a good secondary will still more often then not lose out if the quarterback has all day to throw.

Personally, I think he is doing pretty fine at the position. The guy is in the backfield chasing the QB more times in 4 games then I have seen Weaver there in his entire tenure. Considering our current deficit in the interior defensive line I say he is fine.

Hope returning to Arizona today motivates him to play like his contract!

Didn't see the game. How did he play? Who were the good performers? Poor performers? Thanks.

Didn't really get to watch, but from listening to the 4th quarter, I think it's safe to say that Chris Brown was a %@#$%@#$ poor performer

Smith did pretty well, had a sack basically but Warner let it go when hit...

Really though he's not doing anything Bulman or Barwin can't...shoulda spent the money on Brian Dawkins, look at how he's helped the Broncos.

I'm pretty sure that we're drafting safety with our first round pick.

I've been preaching this all throughout this thread. His leadership in our young lockeroom would have been well worth the money.

Yeah i'm sure we draft a safety also...but monkeyboy is thinking exactly what I'm thinking.

Dawkins is a leader, he would have a impact on this defense for this season and beyond. Not only that, he's still playing great. 129123125160792059x better than what we have.

Also we could still draft a safety in the 1st if we got Dawkins. Who knows how good we would have been with him. I think he would have made a huge impact.

We never extended a offer. So how could we know?

Why wouldn't he want to come here? Denver was thought to be worse off than we were.

From what I understand, Dawkins just wanted to go out on a nice pay day.

If you offer $25 MILLION GUARANTEED, like we gave Smith, almost anyone will come here!
