So tanking hurt the Rockets when it helped us land Hakeem? Did it hurt the Spurs when they landed Duncan? The Cavs when they landed Lebron, etc? I can see both sides of the argument (as far as winning late games that hurt your draft position). But I wouldn’t say tanking causes you to be a perennial loser….
I'm just saying Icehouse that rarely does a team go from zero to hero with one player drafted. Reggie Bush ... overall decent first year but, lots to learn. This year, it's obvious he can't read the blocks and work in tandem with his OL. Oh wait, since the Deuce is no longer loose, Brees is having to work harder and Bush is finding the sledding tough in the NFL. VY has shown some improvement but to say he's the reason for the Titans ascension this year is absurd. I just think sometimes we need to look at the whole picture? If we had AD A.P., then our offense would more than likely be far more competitive but, we still have secondary and possibly OLB issues that would potentially hamper us from becoming a playoff team. Agreed. Sometimes you get lucky. Sometimes you get MJ, sometimes you get Sam Bowie. Sometimes you get Elway, sometimes you get Todd Marinovich. Remember THAT can't miss prospect from USC, I believe. S.I. was touting him and extolling his talents and how he would be an instant leader for the Raiders and get them back to the promised land. What happened? The continuing trek to the Commitment to Excrement! There's a reason why Owen Daniels, Jacoby Jones, DeMeco Ryans, Charles Spencer (though injured and hopefully will come back), Eric Winston, now Fred Bennett and maybe Kasey Studdard (about to play ...) have played significant roles on this team, they're good and with exception of Ryans hardly anyone knew about the others. Bottom line, all these prospects were NOT in the first round and Kuby has slowly been able to mold a team around sound, smart, shrewd draft picks. Maybe 'perennial loser' was a bit harsh but, personally I'm sick of losing and I am beginning to see flashes of brilliance with this team and it kind of makes me excited about the next few years where we may be then. If an overload of injuries cause us to get a high draft pick then, I'm ok with that but, shrewd moves getting us higher places in the draft I'm ok with that obviously. But, doing the 2005 thing where the team basically quit on Dom toward the end that was brutal to watch and want no part of that scenario anymore. Good points both ways, Icehouse but, as you can readily see from draft history nothing is permanent and nothing is definite. You win some, you lose some but, with C&C idiot factory we weren't batting .500 more like below the mendoza line. Thus, the problems until the last few years the Texans had continued to go uncorrected until there was a change of the guard. Hey for what it's worth, we definitely ARE better and could be a REAL force towards the end of the season, at least make things interesting and spice some matchups up.
