Link? I would be interested in where Amobi and Cushing ranked. I suspect that Amobi would be average for DTs versus dead last in the league (like some here think).
Mario, probably due to his injury, was very inconsistent. When he was on, he was his usual dominant self and by far the best defensive Texan.
Sorry, I just have a hard time calling anyone on one of the worst defenses in the history of the NFL anything better than 'okay'.
Only because Google apparently broke... http://www.footballoutsiders.com/stat-analysis/2010/2010-hits-and-hurries
Well, what did you expect? Game back from a four game suspension, switched to MLB for a couple of games, and missed the rest of the season without DeMeco Ryans. The entire defense stunk it up this year, but Cushing's stats didn't fall of that much.
During the 4 game suspension, he wasnt just sitting on the couch, the guy was training hard. He played in the 4 preseason games, so it shouldnt be that hard to come back after missing a month. Afterall, his rookie year, he was injured all preseason and his first snaps were in Week 1. He handled it just fine then. Im not concerned about his stats...Im more concerned about how he looked while on the field. He definitely was no where near as aggressive this year as last...he seemed indecisive and lost. He missed a lot of open field tackles, he misplayed a lot of plays, and he seemed out of position many times. That final Tebow run for the TD to win the game for the Broncos, for instance, was terribly executed by Cushing. Sure, it hurts that DeMeco wasnt there...but then again, if Ryans needs to be there for Cushing to play at a pro-bowl level, then thats not something I want to accept. Cushing should be playing at a high level regardless of who is around him. That is what is expected from him. EDIT: But if we do want to look at stats, his numbers dropped across the board. And not just a little bit. Also, given that DeMeco wasnt in the line up taking away a lot of the potential tackles, Cushing's tackles should have gone up, one would think...but he was making 2 less tackles per game, on average. Big dip considering DeMeco wasnt even playing.
(disclaimer: the period key on my keyboard is not working, so my seneteces will be in lines) Cushing played fine this season, he was probably the best defender on the defense once he was playing in the right position As an OLB, it is a lot more difficult to be effective without good MLB play Demeco clogging the middle gave Cush more ability to free roam and make plays all over the field with him out, Cushing had a lot more responsibilities he was not used to or not ready for, having to cover for an incompetent MLB makes his play at OLB considerably worse I would blame the lack of aggressiveness on that and Bush's playcalling
Well **** dude, Steve Smith is on the worst O in the league. So is Jonathan Stewart AND DeAngelo Williams... Then again... Houston...fanbase... trying not to call most of this fanbase r****ded...
Mr. Phillips sounds pretty confident that he can turn this defense around in a hurry. Anybody else thinking of Kubiak saying he could make Carr a good QB when he first came in?
I wouldn't get your hopes up to far as far as a very active free agency period is concerned for the Texans as McNair may already be hinting at whats to come with free agency: Link: http://www.kansascity.com/2011/01/06/2565235/mcnair-confident-in-texans-coaching.html
Eh, you're right. Texan fans have nothing to be pissed off about. We should just quit whining. At least we have a team. Plus they looked really good against Jacksonville last week.
Only watched 15 games? So even the Texans knew that 20-0 win at Tennessee didn't really mean anything. Surely that's the one they skipped over. ha I really hope he puts Cushing outside. I think his best chance to make plays are rushing the passer or dropping into coverage. Let DeMeco and the other ILB stop the run.
