Patriots Notebook: Moulds' advisor says Pats aren't eager enough 01:00 AM EST on Tuesday, March 28, 2006 BY TOM E. CURRAN Journal Sports Writer The Patriots will have to keep the "Help Wanted" signs posted outside the wide receivers meeting rooms a while longer. Eric Moulds won't be coming to town. Moulds' advisor, Greg Johnson , said last night that the Houston Texans and Philadelphia Eagles are moving more quickly than the Patriots to strike a deal with the Bills to land Moulds. "It's not going to work out [with New England]," said Johnson. "The timing's not right. The only way it would get done now is if it falls apart with these other teams, and I don't see that happening. "I know it would take longer to get it done in New England and these other teams want to know [Moulds' plans] and want to get it done quickly. I've got be honest with you, we'll most likely get it done in the next 48 hours." The Patriots directly expressed interest in the Bills wide receiver. And the veteran Moulds, who's forcing his way out of a bleak situation in Buffalo, said he'd like to play for the Pats. But the Bills surely would have made it expensive for the Pats to acquire him -- far more pricy than the fourth-round pick they're reportedly willing to accept from Houston.
Yeah I know but im saying I would listen to Berman over any of the other local reporters because Berman gets all the Texans info first.
A Bills fans board claims that the NFL Network is reporting that the Bills couldn't get 4th rounder for Moulds, and are going to release him.
From everything I've seen, the Texans offered it. Either way, I'll be happy however we get him. Hopefully we can land him if he's released.
Good. I think adding Moulds would be great. But to give up what is essentially a late 3rd round pick for a 33 year old number 2 reciever is too much when said player may get released and could be had without draft pick compensation. In addition to that, Javon Walker may force his way out of Green Bay and I would rather see a the draft pick given to a younger player in Walker than Moulds.
i agree, only problem is that Walker is going to demand MUCH more money than Moulds, AND he's coming off major knee surgery....ill pass on Walker for a 2-3 year rental for Moulds....and pick up another receiver in the second round or third round of the draft.
The problem is that, if he is released, the Texans don't have nearly as good a chance of landing him. He, apparently, wants to play in Philly and, if he is released, he is expected to sign there. Sounds like the only way we can get him is through a trade. My only concern with Walker is health. How effective is he ultimately going to be after his injuries?
MOULDS PREFERS EAGLES "Although recent reports out of Houston suggest that the Texans are at the lead of the pack in the hunt to strike a deal for Bills receiver Eric Moulds, the Philadelphia Daily News reports that the Texans aren't one of the five teams on Moulds' wish list. Instead, the teams in which Moulds primarily is interested are the Eagles, Patriots, Seahawks, Chiefs, and Bronco." From ProFootballTalk.com
Honestly, I don't see why the Texans would be on any receiver's "wish list". If they want a big time #2 receiver, they have to overpay or trade. But to me, bringing in veteran wide outs is a plan as likely to bust as to work out. This team isn't going to compete for a playoff spot next year anyway, so don't mortgage the future by trading away valuable picks. I like Moulds, but not at the cost of anything higher than a 6th or 7th rounder.
Come on, Moulds is getting old but he is still a legit WR, something the Texans really haven't had outside of AJ. Finding a NFL starter in the 6th or 7th round is like finding gold, Moulds is better than 90% of the draftees in those late rounds. Plus w/ CC's track record in the draft...I really don't have to explain this do I?
Moulds is pretty slow now and is getting up in age. I don't think I would give up big money and a early 4th round pick for him in the Texans situation. Better off using that pick for a WR who could pan out long term and be much cheaper. IMO Moulds work's against building for the future--and is exactly why Buf is not keeping him in their plans. Moulds makes a lot more sense to Phily or NE who are thinking of a player to make a difference the next year or two.
this is going to break down along the lines of those who think the Texans are in a position to be playoff competitive next year and those who think the Texans are better served stocking up on as much young talent as possible for the future.
Not having a legit #2 WR is a huge hole. I don't want to trade our picks away, because I realize that they're valuable for the future. Here is where I make an exception. If you can get a legit #2 WR for the cost of a 4th round pick, I think you jump on it. IMO
Buffalo doesn't think he is worth the hefty investment and Moulds is not going to take a huge paycut, if he can get a better deal elsewhere.
I have to disagree. Moulds is 32, not 36. There's no reason to believe that we won't be competitive in 2007 with the improvements we've made this year and should make next year as well. Moulds would be an outstanding addition for a second day pick. I'd even do it for one of our third rounders.
Gotta disagree with this. I think bringing in a veteran reciever IS building for the future. We have to see whether Carr is our QB or not, and we have to do that THIS year. The only way to do that is to bring in some guys who can actually catch the ball. It's not fair to put guys like Bradford and/or unproven rookies around him. It's also not fair to AJ to not have at least a decent #2 reciever, for obvious reasons.
