It's for all practical purposes a one year deal now with Buffalo eating the bonus money, and all of our spending for this offseason was likely done already. The contract is a non factor in whether this is a good or bad deal. If he sucks he gets cut and that's that, just a wasted pick.
Even if this backfires spectacularly - and it might! - has any team more quickly transformed itself seemingly overnight than the Texans? We haven't even reached the one-year anniversary of the Stroud/Anderson draft
Good question, why hasn’t he been cut yet? So glad to see Nick going all in as he should. Curious to see where we are cap wise if we could still add guys like Simmons, Howard, Gilmore etc. to shore up the secondary. Draft seems obvious to me need DT.
Diggs is 30. Dude needs to start acting his age. Typing this as a 42 yr old wearing a Ghostrider shirt under my blazer
Yeah hard to see why you would keep Woods at this point with Noah Brown now your 4th WR and the "veteran" who can drop in when someone is hurt. Woods doesn't contribute on special teams does he? Your 5th and 6th(?) WRs probably need to be special teamers. They have Steven Sims signed right now (easily cuttable) and Hutchinson that they drafted last year as a project. Defense in the draft feels like a lock now. DT, CB, S are all weak positions, but I'd argue DT is not the weakest of the three. We'll see how the draft shakes out.
I see this as a 2 or 3 year rental, and then he's gone. I'm totally fine with that, unless he takes a huge paycut. Paying Nico is priority over Diggs. Put it this way: Essentially, we traded pick 23 for Diggs, a second round pick and a fifth and sixth round pick. Well done, Nick.
Just like everything else Nick has done this off-season, this is an incredibly low risk, high reward move that lines up exactly with our timeline right now. There aren't too many realities where this trade could backfire on us in a way that would disrupt our ability to be contenders in the AFC for the foreseeable future. Locker room concerns COULD be an issue, but if there's a group of leaders that can stifle his tendency to be a cancer, it's this one.
