I think Caserio is balancing going all in with the roster upgrades and being responsible with the Texans future contractual obligations with their core players. That's why so many of the deals signed this season are two years. For this move, I think Caserio is trying to incentivize Diggs to not only perform and get the team over the top, but also to mitigate against Diggs poisoning the locker room. If Diggs is back to being awesome and wants a big deal, why not with Houston? Who is to say that Caserio could not franchise Collins and sign Diggs to big, short term deal?
Took my words right out of my mouth…Exactly how I feel…I personally don’t like it, but it is what it is…
Hmmm…I guess this lessens the risk of paying a malcontent for 4 years? Either he’s amazing and we resign him or use the money elsewhere.
Turning Diggs into a pure one-year rental dampens my enthusiasm about the trade. By giving up a 2nd rounder next year, Caserio is playing like a casino gambler here.
Their already wasn't any risk though. We could've cut him with no repercussions after this season. We had all the leverage and control based on his performance.
Draft picks don’t always work out either. A motivated, well behaved Diggs could make our offense unstoppable. Hopefully it works out this year.
This is what sucks, he balls out and makes our offense unstoppable…and boom he’s gone because he will want even more money now…
I hate this. You never give up a 2nd rounder for a one-year guy…maybe if you are contending for a Super Bowl. I now dislike this trade. I knew it was too good to be true with those non-guaranteed yrs at good value. Really would have rather had Keenan Allen for a 4th rounder. Now we have to bid against the entire nfl if we want to keep our investment longer than a year…and I guess we also lose draft compensation. Why do this? If you don’t have the confidence in him for more than a year, why do this deal?
I don’t get the hate for the contract restructure. I tend to not overvalue draft picks so I’m not losing sleep on giving up Minny’s 2nd. I also would rather have Diggs put up numbers, outplay his contract, and let him hit free agency in a good mood/mindset than him outplay his contract, and subsequently create a contract dispute. Moves like this are an underrated reason why players are wanting to come to Houston. Caserio has shown he’s willing to put players in good contract situations.
It seems like you want to make excuses for anyone that you’re hoping will work out. See how that works? You talk out of both sides of your mouth too, on one hand it’s the OC but then on the other it’s only on field play. Diggs has been a notable malcontent, with a top 2-3 QB. His last 13 games last season he didn’t break 100 yds, including playoffs. Nico’s numbers were good when healthy, they showed when he stayed healthy and had a good QB. Diggs has never not had a good QB, and he’s always unhappy with something. If that doesn’t worry you, then you live in a fairytale land. He wasn’t a top 10 receiver last season
Damn so Diggs is Randy Johnson? Nick is a smart man so I believe some type of way he signs him to a nice 2 yr deal during or right after the season.
We need to explain to Stefon he won't be getting half the targets anymore. This is an offense based on getting the ball to the open man and not hyper-focusing on any one or two targets. It will be interesting to see how Slowick and CJ distribute the ball.
