I understand your feelings of a better draft position, but it's more than that. Remember what happened the last time they had a chance at 8-8, only to choke it away in the final game against Cleveland? 2-14 is what happened. They may or may not be tied together, but I'd rather go into the offseason a winner and have that momentum going into '08 than to pick a few spots higher. Plus, 9-7 or 8-8 and a team on the rise look better than 7-9 to free agents.

they don't have to prove anything to themselves considering the key injuries. finish 7-9 get a top 13,14th pick. if they win 9 it might be 18-20. big difference

As unlikely as it is, how amazing would it be to hear Vandermeer say, "Merry Christmas, Houston!" again this year?

But I'll stick with my 7-9 prediction, which I'm frankly very pleased with. I didn't expect they'd win another game once Dunta went down.

Please. Don't you think this franchise has done enough losing? How about we try to win every game from here on out?

What if every team tried to lose on purpose once they were eliminated from playoff contention?

i don't care about draft position at this point. i want them to win out. it makes for a better offseason and shows us that they HAVE improved. 9-7 after all those injuries tells me this team is a playoff contender...especially if we beat IND and JAX.

Finish 7-9 so you can get a draft pick that improves your team a couple games to finish 9-7? Whats the point? Lets act like this is the year drafted players like Okoye and Fred Bennett improved the team's win total.

A 9-7 records helps the entire franchise's direction MORE than having the top pick in the draft. You go into next year with the bar RAISED to get double digit wins, instead of settling for high draft picks as consolation.

New England or Indianapolis haven't had a high draft pick in years. All they care about is kicking butt on the field with what they got.

considering the team's track record in its past two drafts, i could care less where they draft; finishing 9-7 and continuing to establish an environment that doesn't tolerate losing is eleventy-hundred times more important.

the tide is starting to turn with this team; seems things all finally coming together - mario williams is playing out of his mind, finally putting the '06 draft to sleep; they may have found a boatload of useable (and needed) depth; kubiak seems to be growing as a coach; and fans are starting to get excited. they need to seize that momentum, not flutter it away so they can draft the 15th-best college player instead of the 20th. not even remotely worth it.

absolutely. I think this team is finally starting to lose that loser mentality. Hopefully they can carry momentum into the offseason

And hopefully the fans can lose that loser mentality as well. You play to win, not to improve your draft slot.

i can't imagine somehow finding a draft pick more enjoyable than possibly marching into the rca dome and thumping peyton manning and the colts....

It just kills me sometimes to look back at the early season schedule and see the losses to Atlanta and @ home to TN. Could very legitimately be looking at 9-5 right now and still very much in the hunt.

Either way, it's been a good season and setting this team on a path for success next year and beyond.

I think we still may take a lost at Indy.
Indy has already secured the number 2 seed, right?

It looks like Jacksonville has secured the higher wildcard birth.

If they rest their starters, there is a chance we will win both of these games.

I know it doesn't help our draft choices, but it doesn't hurt to say we finished with a winning record, and beat two playoff teams to end the season.

All that mo could carry over to next August, and the start of the Season in September.

as bill parcells always cautioned, you are what you are. in the game of woulda, shoulda, coulda, the wins and losses ultimately even out.

their 7 wins are against teams with a combined record of 37-61. they were a better, more entertaining team this year; they have a nice foundation moving forward; they found and developed some pieces; kubiak has settled in. but they aren't there yet.

No, they're not there yet. But still, the teams the Texans lost to are a combined 51-33 (.607). In fact, except for Atlanta, every team they lost to is either a playoff team or in the hunt for the playoffs (Titans). There's no shame in that, IMO.

first of all i think mario does deserve the praise he is getting and I am happy for him because he had a lot of pressure on him.

I dont think this should piss off any vince or titans fans because we are still in the hunt for the playoffs and fell one game short last year. say all you want about vince's sophmore slump but he still was the offensive rookie of the year and deserved it. Titans can make some serious noise if they make it in, but still need to take care of business and win out.

    Enjoy the early offseason

To be fair, VY did look from the highlights vs KC. It appears perhaps he's starting to develop more consistency and if the Titans make the playoffs and play those b*stard Jaguars in the playoffs i will cheer for the Titans and no I am not drunk. I just cannot stand those arrogant fags in J'ville. I hope we destroy those F'ers in last week of season. THAT in addition to beating Indy this week would make my year! In Tenn. my beef has been and always will be Bud Adams, he's the SOB of SOB's. I know some have their viewpoint but that's my story and I'm stickin to IT! :D

Thanks for being classy on this point. Mario proved a lot of naysayers wrong this year and I think next year and many years to come Titans vs Texans is gonna be a donnybrook of a match up. Maybe that will be our Mon niter! :p

So good luck and Merry Christmas ya filthy animal! LOL! :D

no shame at all - they're not yet good enough to compete with playoff-level teams (outscored by those playoff teams 195-124 in the losses) but far enough along to beat inferior teams... IOW, they're a 7-7 team.

Its been a tough year to be a titans fan to be honest, won a bunch of close games while choking away several. The play calling really hasnt allowed vince to play "his" game, and in order for the titans/vince to be successful they need to adapt to his game and not play fisher ball.....rumors are chow will go to UCLA but I am unsure that will change anything from play calling stand point.

Vince def needs help and I think this was a good year for him to learn from. I hope titans make playoffs but I would be lying to you if I honestly thought they were going to before the season started.

Back to mario, he really looks to be the real deal and I hope he continues to play well. screw reggie!
