https://www.click2houston.com/sport...t-texans-which-nfl-teams-have-made-inquiries/ Cooks’ trade scenarios remain unclear with a league source predicting he’ll ultimately remain with the Texans as the Nov. 2 trade deadline approaches, barring an extremely competitive offer for the former Oregon State standout. That isn’t from lack of interest, though. Cooks has been the subject of multiple trade inquiries, including the Green Bay Packers, Kansas City Chiefs and the Rams. Nothing has advanced into anything that could be characterized as developing at this time heading into next Tuesday’s deadline. Financially, the Texans would take on $8.782 million in dead money this year and $16.22 million in dead money in 2023 if they traded Cooks. They would net just $967,533 in net cap savings immediately this year and $10.398 million in 2023. The Texans already restructured Cooks’ contract in September, converting $831,11 of his $2 million base salary into a signing bonus to create $554,000 in immediate salary cap savings. Cooks’ base salary is now $1.12 million after playing one game at the $2 million rate. He signed a two-year, $39 million contract extension in April that included $36 million guaranteed and a maximum annual value of nearly $19.8 million, rewarding him as one of the top wide receivers in the league. That included a $16 million signing bonus.
Clearly the defense is completely worn down by the 4th. They are really terrible against the run and that makes an already suspect DL and Linebacker corps absolutely unable to compete.
It makes a lot of sense…Smith is still very young and we have cap space to lock him up long term just put him in bubble wrap until next year….maybe one of those “hamstring” injuries
