that has zero correlation to the discussion; actually, that's not true - it has so little to do with it, it's actually registering a negative number. and as if that's not enough, it's a faulty premise. yeah, dallas had awesome numbers (and an MVP).... and an awesome record. imagine that....
your flaccid point is that numbers don't matter... and yet a team that generated terrific numbers over the course of an 82-game season... finished with the best record. i know it's sometimes tough to follow along such tricky slopes of logic, but you're only underscoring my point... what happened in the playoffs was as much an anamoly as the titans winning 8 of 13 games despite being outscored in those 13 games.
Wow. How about I bet you that they won't have a losing season? Look at the schedule. I certainly see them getting more than 6 wins. My prediction: 10-6 (more likely 9-7, but definately not 6-10) W - Sep 9 Kansas City L - Sep 16 @Carolina L - Sep 23 Indianapolis W - Sep 30 @Atlanta W - Oct 7 Miami W - Oct 14 @Jacksonville W - Oct 21 Tennessee L - Oct 28 @San Diego W - Nov 4 @Oakland - Week 10 BYE L - Nov 18 New Orleans W - Nov 25 @Cleveland W - Dec 2 @Tennessee W - Dec 9 Tampa Bay L - Dec 13 Denver L - Dec 23 @Indianapolis W - Dec 30 Jacksonville
I can't speak for others. But for me, it was worse--much worse--for a number of reasons. 1) I wanted the team to partially vindicate itself in the eyes of mediots and know-nothings by beating the team with the guy they supposedly should have drafted. 2) The stands had a ton of idiots (or at least network TV made it look that way) holding signs about how the Texans were stupid, or we're fans of Vince Young only, etc. I wanted them all to go home unhappy. 3) Top reason it was worse: We lost the game on the last freaking play. No matter *who* it's against, that's *always* worse. 4) We lost the game on the last freaking play on one of the dumbest defensive calls of the century. Dumb. Assed. Call. 5) Not only did we lose it on a call that makes our team look stupid in the first place, but the play was made by the guy that all the mediots were screaming we should have drafted. The banter at the end of the game should have been all about the Texans controlling the clock and controlling the ball and a well-executed win. Instead, it was more Vince Young hero worship. Gag me with a freaking sweat rag. Ric, you may not think or feel that way, but to act like no one else would feel that way in the face of everything that went on is akin to burying one's head in the sand. It may not be correct or logical, but there was a momentous groundswell of illogical and incorrect feeling all around Houston at the time, and that is undeniable.
Alright, let me explain again... Manning will be good for another 5 years, therefore the Colts will be better for 5 more years... ATLEAST. Vince Young will be good for another 10 years, and the Titans will put a better team around Vince every year. Texans play in the AFC, so knowing how strong the AFC is and how much better the other teams are, the Texans WILL NOT win the division or the wild card for the next 9-10 years... Understand? It's not that hard to see or predict.
when and where am i acting like that, msn? i - me, ric - didn't care. it was no worse than any of their other 9 losses, imo, given that it didn't knock us out of the playoffs, or quell our bid to reach .500, or antyhing else that might make the game more significant. i certainly don't care about one-upping a bunch of LCD-embracing bandwagoners and/or the journalists that feed them the fuel for their stupidity.
Well, Peyton did win the SuperBowl last year, and Vince did have a better record than the Texans, and he was only a rookie. They do say QB rookie's have trouble adjusting to the NFL...
I read this statement wrong, then: So, because *you* don't care, it couldn't possibly be worse than any of hte other gabillion losses? That post may have sounded more terse than intended--we disagree quite vehemently on other issues, but I did *not* intend to be combative with this one. All I meant to communicate was that while you might not care, thousands obviously did--and it was pretty easy to see that if one listened to popular sentiment at the time (whether one agrees with said sentiment or not). Good for you. I personally did. I wanted to shut them for at least ten freaking seconds. So sue me.
That must have amazing to watch. Personally, I really enjoyed watching the Colts win the SuperBowl. I also saw the Titans luck their way into a better record than the Texans (but didn't enjoy that at all).
Too much controversy at QB. Same reason I'm picking them to beat KC in the first game. I have more faith in Schaub, because of the limited NFL film I watched. Jax has talent, no doubt. They're not in sync and this year eyes are going to fall on coaching, if poor player personel choices are made. I like Jack Del Rio, but he seems a bit hesitant at the QB position. Then again, we held on to Carr for f'n forever.
