I think it's a simple fact of wanting to get closer. I'm not sure what kind of student he is. I would guess he's decent, especially for an athlete. If I were a junior and I was assured of a multi-million dollar job, I would bolt. I could always come back for my degree. Of course, I think Roy is expecting an even larger payday.
i agree that we have the right QB, and i agree the last thing the OL needs is more rookies learning on the job, but i vehemently disagree that we have the receivers. bradford is awful; gaffney is still very raw and inexperienced and looks light years away; dawson has flashes, but is he a legit starting NFL wide-out? i'm not so sure. after that, it's not even worth mentioning. there's a not a team in football either bradford or gaffney could start for. our only reliable receiver is TE billy miller, who can't block to save his life.
I agree that our receivers blow. Our best two receivers are really #3 receivers if they were on any other team. We could use Rogers bigtime.
If Bradford was still with Green Bay he would be a starter, and most likely they wouldn't have signed Donald Driver. I know Bradford has had his goof-ups, but cut the man some slack, the receiving corp. will get better, just give them time. As for your comments on Miller, you're right on, on the footage of David Carr getting sacked, alot of times I see Miller getting passed by the DE, or LB to get to Carr.
well, he didn't start there last year and they were desperate for competent receivers; they also didn't make what you'd call a concerted effort to keep him this winter. he's in his, what? 4th year? the drops are inexcusable and he's had a lot of them. and the only route he seems capable of running is the fly, otherwise, he's lost. gaffney has an upside; i think this is as good as bradford will ever be.
He didn't start last year because the team was still deep at WR. They lost Freeman, and Bradford and Ferguson were considered the future receiving corp. for the Packers. The Packers brass even expressed a little regret in not retaining Bradford, but all that went away when Driver came out wowed them and everyone in the Packer organization said Corey who? This is Bradford's first real year that he gets to start every down and is considered the go-to receiver. I make no excuse for him dropping all the passes he has, but I do know that you cannot expect a guy to come into a new team and be the man right away. Gaffney has a lot of upside and hope that he continues to show major strides this season and next. I still want to see the Texans pick CHarles Rogers, that would only strengthen the receiving core, or draft a run-stopping DT.
here's what was written in the post gazette when bradford turned down GB's offer: "Bradford should draw interest from other teams because of his speed and size, but his inconsistent problems with route running and hands could make teams think twice." and why did he turn down GB's offer? he wasn't guaranteed a starting spot. why else leave GB for houston? the pack offered to triple his 2001 pay. btw, driver pushed bradford all last year -- he didn't come out of nowhere.
On the Packers depth chart Bradford was slated as the #3 receiver. He left to come to the Texans because he was going to be the #1 receiver on this team. As for his problems, yes he has been suspect about his hands, I stated previously that I make no excuse for him dropping passes. I guess we'll agree to disagree.
yes, i know, and it's why i posted originally that he couldn't start for another team in the NFL. you responded, "If Bradford was still with Green Bay he would be a starter." not only is that not true, as it seems you're now conceding, but he wouldn't have been the starter despite them losing their two starters! that speaks volumes, imo. and while you've copped to his bad hands, you've yet to even mention his horrible route running, not to mention his inability to get open, read the quarterback, react to the play.... corey bradford is destined to be a #3 receiver in the NFL; he's not good enough to be anything else. this is his fourth year in the league; if he's still trying to master consistently catching the football.... so let's reset: there's not a team in football either bradford or gaffney could start for.
Well, according to the bottom, McGahee might not be coming to the NFL next year. I think desperately the Texans need to improve their sorry running game and that hideous offensive line. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- http://www.tallahassee.com/mld/tallahassee/sports/colleges/4742281.htm Posted on Sun, Dec. 15, 2002 McGahee wavering about returning to Miami BY SUSAN MILLER DEGNAN The Miami Herald NEW YORK - University of Miami quarterback Ken Dorsey, a senior, will enter the NFL Draft in the spring. And there's a good chance sophomore Willis McGahee won't be a Hurricane next season either - even though he would rather not address the issue now. Despite saying Saturday he would return next season - then minutes later saying he didn't want to think about the draft, just the national championship game - the third-year sophomore also has wavered. McGahee said recently, "I want to be a top-10 overall pick." If projected to be a high pick, he said he would discuss the possibility with his mother and coaches. UM coach Larry Coker said he would be "proactive" this year and speak to top underclassmen about their draft status before the Fiesta Bowl. "I'm going to be a little bit more proactive as far as letting them know it doesn't have to be a big secret," Coker said. "I won't let you know, but McGahee can if he wants to. It's not a situation where he's letting anybody down." NFL draft analyst Mel Kiper Jr. said Friday night on ESPN that McGahee "will be a top five to 10 pick in the first round if he comes out early. "He had a B+ or A grade in every game this year," Kiper said. McGahee's older brother, Eugene Poole, who owns the gym in which McGahee got so strong, told The Herald this week: "I can only speculate on McGahee turning pro, but coming from me, it depends on the outcome of the national championship. If they win, he has nothing else to prove at Miami." McGahee, however, played as a fullback in last season's Rose Bowl national title win. HEISMAN JINX? Earlier this season, UM offensive tackle Vernon Carey said Dorsey was almost fearful of winning the Heisman, that, according to Dorsey, winning the trophy was a "jinx" to the victor. "He doesn't even like to talk about it," Carey said. Indeed, 2001 winner Eric Crouch retired from football after being drafted by the Rams in the third round - and told he wouldn't be a quarterback. When Dorsey was asked about the so-called jinx, he said, "I hope it's not true. I hope Carson Palmer has a brilliant career."
