although i think steve should be ranked higher, this guy has a right to his opinion and hes luckily has people that will pay to listen to it. whether he is right or not doesnt matter, if steve has an amazing year, that is the best type of response to Tex.

i say, send an article to steve and get him motivated. if steve brings us to the playoffs and does an honorable job, send the article back to tex and tell him to suck it. if theres anything we can learn from yao, its that actions speak louder than words.

Whatever it takes for Francis to get motivated.

    Go for it.

You all know damn well that DavidS is mostly just posting bullsh*t in this thread. Why are you arguing with him? There's no point. I bet he's just having a great time with you guys.

yes francis has weaknesses and it is fine to want improvement and better leadership from him. but to try and justify leaving a man who averages 20, 6, and 6 from a list that includes 29 other guards is f@#ing stupid.

Ok, talk to me in 3 years (maybe this year, if JVG helps SF), if Francis starts to change his game. Take a look at his game before, and after.

If, he does this, IF...then you wont argue with results. If Francis actually makes the changes necessary to run this team, then, you can't say that he's always been that way.

Day and night, it will seem.

I can understand your argument DavidS.

I can see how someone might rank SF lower than expected as far as a traditional pg goes.

I can see Winter not putting SF in the "comer" section, since he has already obviously arrived.

But to rank Billups and Arenas ahead of SF as combo guards?

    I mean. Come. on.

Makes you wonder if he would ranked him 7th in the combo list, or 4th or 5th, if the "senile" story is right.

They should have posted a top ten for the combo guard list. Not a top 6.

Not when the 90's bulls are involved. Tim Grover's dog could walk by his house and take a dump on his lawn and DavidS would have it encased in Lucite and put it on his mantel. And if you wouldn't do the same you are a homer.

He was talking about Baron Davis numbers.

By the way, Tex doesn't work for the Bulls anymore.

He's had some sucess in LA. Don't ya remember?

Hey DavidS, let's put it this way, at least you're keeping it interesting in the offseason, and we enjoy arguing with you.

You're acting as if he has zero pure point guard abilities. He is not a true point guard--we know that--but his skills at the point are definitely in competition with most of the people on the Best Point Guards list (6.2 apg, etc), and the added effect of his scoring ability, ability to carry the team on his back, and clutch presence certainly push him much higher on the list. And don't take the position that point guards should NEVER score in a game and if they do score, it's not important. Look at it this way: he hasn't been pushed to act as a point guard in past seasons because there simply hasn't been anyone to pass to in the 3 seasons before last, and he's still adjusting to the addition of Yao and the need to distribute. Who would he have passed to 2 years ago? Eddie Griffin so we could hear the rim clank over and over? Moochie so that we could watch the shot clock run to zero as Moochie dribbles?

HE HAD TO BE SENILE. Otherwise he would have put him on the "Comers" list. He didn't have a cap on the number of people he put on his comers list (he added 3 for small F). Francis belongs on the combo guard list right after AI, but at the VERY LEAST, Francis would have been a comer. I mean give me a break man, J.R. f**king BREMER!!! You can't be serious!

And hello, this stupid list that Tex Winter put together is for _current_ player situations in the NBA. So even YOU'RE agreeing with us that Tex Winter is full of sh*t and Francis should be #2 on the combo guard list.

HE'S ALREADY CHANGING HIS GAME YOU MORON. Just last year he improved his ability to swallow his ego and distribute the ball. His scoring went down, his assists went up and he acknowledged that he was giving up the ball on purpose to benefit the team.

You know what, you should just admit you're wrong and stop defending your boytoy Tex Winter, even though it's very obvious now that you two had a few hot sweaty nights together sometime back in your past. EVERY expert out there except for Tex Winter ranks The Franchise as one of the top 10 point guards or top 10 combo guards, if not the top 5 in either category.
But like I said, at least you're keeping it interesting in the offseason, and we enjoy arguing with you, you FLAMING IDIOT.

You are correct in that Francis gets no respect for his game. Folks here believe in Steve Francis and readily take offense at articles such as this because of his enormous athletic ability and athletic potential which would be great if pure athletic talent was the deciding factor in winning in the NBA.

Unfortunately for them and Stevie "Franchise", there's a little item called basketball skills that keeps getting in the way. Simply put, his overall game playing the point guard position does not merit his being considered a "great" player - good perhaps but not great. Simply put, his play at the point - especially on the defensive end - needs to show vast improvement if the Rockets are to rise up and compete on the next level in the West. And the fact that he has yet to even suit up in a playoff game definitely weighs heavily on this "lack of respect" Francis is received from the multi-ringed Mr. Winter. Personally, no one here should even give a f*ck what Tex Winter thinks and I consider the emotional reactions to DavidS' post misplaced.

If folks here want to point fingers and attack someone, let them point fingers at this team and organization that has slipped into mediocracy. A team and organization that puts more effort in crafting excuses for failure than it does trying to improve the product on the court. JVG put it best in today's Chronicle:

"This league is very cut and dried," Van Gundy said. "You either win or you lose. You're either a playoff team or a lottery team, or you're a championship team or an also-ran. That's it. You are what your record says you are, whether you are a coach, a player or a general manager. It doesn't matter what your stats are. It's not if you've got talent. You are going to be judged by how much you win."

I think that all of those in the "Franchise" camp misunderstood the tone of your post here - accountability. It's one thing to declare yourself a "leader" and a great player. It's quite another thing to actually go out on the court and PROVE it. Francis himself can do something to end this lack of respect by going out and producing on the court. He can get his head straight and work with JVG to raise the level of play at the point and sacrifice his ego & SportCenter style of play and do what is necessary to make his TEAM better.

Winning gets you respect. Four straight years in the lottery makes you suspect.

LOL!!!! Flaming? Ha! Pot, meet Kettle!

By the way, my combo list would have Francis at 4 or 5. Not in the traditional PG list. But Winter might have other reasons.

Now, regarding the "HE'S ALREADY CHANGING HIS GAME" statement. You need to look at this stats again.

He's down his ppg from 21.6 to 21. His assist from 6.3 to 6.2 and his turnovers are have moved from 4.0, 3.3, 3.9, to 3.7 (3.7 average). Now, that's just talking "stats." Next you should watch his decision making on the court.

    Changing his game? Ok thanks.

I wish you people would stop with your foolish stats!! Who cares if Steve averages 6.2 apg? Do you not watch the games? Unless Steve changes how he gets his 6.2apg he will never be considered a good point gaurd in my mind. And I hope JVG can stop this damn fool from driving the lane with reckless abandon right into 3 defenders and 1.) pray for the foul to be called. or 2.) make a half ass pass out to the arc that leaves someone with a bad shot. or 3.) put up a half ass shot looking for the highlight reel.
