I agree that the Indian government hasn't treated the Kashmiris well and have violated human rights in their fight against the sepratist but that doesn't justify what happened in Mumbai.
I agree that the British empire has left a lot of problems throughout where the empire was but I'm not going to lay this at the feet of the British. This was the action of some fanatics who were fighting a religious and ideological war not a fight for freedom from the British. So yes the British could've done a better a job managing the fall of their empire in the Indian subcontinent but at the same time the Indians and Pakistanis got their countries and could've figure out how to manage things better themselves. As much as I like Irish rebel tunes to lay this on the British is unwarranted.
No doubt, without the British occupation those countries would be in the same boat as Africa.... The Brits civilized that country. DD
And it's also enslaved by the west spiritually...... It's sad that India as a country was formed because of clonization. India learned how to brag like the westerners, but refuse to learn the essence------DO something concrete to back up their claim. How could a group of 10 something terrorists broke through the city from the sea without any efficient resistance is beyond me. Don't tell me we are a democracy and we couldn't do it.
Uh... "they" were arguably more civilized before the British came along. You could posit that the British played the role of raiders, and "they" are now just getting back on their feet.
^Obviously Gandhi wanted one india, i thought i could leave that much to common sense. I am talking about once pakistan was already to be made. He didnt think Hindus would be banned from it. There is always someone who has to justify terrorist attacks. You are honestly saying the Indian government is anti-muslim? And lets puts aside the hindus that are being killed everyday as well by muslims in pakistan. There is a reason there will be no hindus left in that state pretty soon. Hasn't Pakistan invaded Kashmir twice or something? And Pakistan has repeatedly been found to be responsible for terrorist attacks in Kashmir. They have been demanding Kashmir since the countries were made. India needs to actually act on pakistan for once.
If you are Indian, shame on you. Your country deserves all the ****ty hole it's in because of backboneless people like you.
I heard this yesterday morning and thought it was worth posting. http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=97602361
That's the reason why Indians are doing what the west tells them to do, but not what the westerners are actually doing? Indians need a Malcom X, not Martin Luther King sorta, spiritually, to the Brits and the west that have been trying to enslave them. Otherwise they'll never gain real respect and just treated like a tool.
I think evil sums up what happened very well, wes, and I'm agnostic. The word fits. And for those looking to blame someone... India, Pakistan, Muslims, Hindus, the freakin' British... how about putting blame where blame belongs? On the evil bastards that did this? I don't think for a second that the government of Pakistan, the Indian government, mainstream Muslims and Hindus, or the freakin' British (why on earth did someone bring them up??) deserve responsibility for this. Sometimes, evil is simply just evil. A group planned this very carefully. Whoever makes up that group are those who are responsible, and you won't find a government or a mainstream religion behind this madness. And I'll add something else. Anyone who thinks 10 men accomplished this is out of their freakin' mind. There are members of this conspiracy in Mumbai right now, running for cover and delighted with the results. In my opinion.
Are you crazy or what? No matter how many people conspirated on the attack, it's those 10 men who actually carried out the plan. How the heck the police force didn't do anything about it until all the killing spree had happened, even when the fishermen spotted them in the first place? Pathetic. Of course the Brits were not directly behind this. They took advantage of the complicated situation in the south asia, religion, caste and politics wise, to split the whole continent, to weaken them. Don't you know the ancient split and rule, in south asian case, split and run?
Aside from some random posters shooting off their hips, this has been an informative topic. I would like to know more personal depth about the current history without resorting to a cursory wiki binge. I'm willing to spend 15-30 minutes of reading. Any suggestions?
Thats what happens when you take guns from law abiding citizens. Outlaw guns and only <strike>outlaws</strike> terrorist will have weapons.
Mind you, Mumbay has been attacked by terrorists for more than 40 times during the past two decades. The difference is this time the terrorists openly entered the city and even held a stand-off against the police force. The city panicked for 8-9 hours during this attack. The police numbered about 40 dared not open fire to two of the gunmen. You could see how unprepared and how fragile the city is. The police ineptitude was just appalling. Nevertherless, there are two many conflicts in the society, the caste system, the religious problem including Hindus vs Islam, Hindu vs Christians and the conflicts with its neighbor countries especially Parkistan and the disparity between the rich and the poor. The bomb has been mined long time ago and it would implode sooner or later. Although it is still possible that pakistan militants were involved in the attack, Indian government's attitude is worrying. It is trying to find an outlet for domestic anger and possibly will point to a wrong target---pakistan. The problem is very possibly inside its own society, but the goverment willtry to find a scapegoat. It's a dangerous situation for the relationship between India and Pakistan. Dagerous for India solve(or not) its own problems.
This was my point right from the onset. Mafia(Dawood Ibrahim's) involvement should have provided most of resources on the ground. This is a reminder that the evil that is planning and executing these things is still alive and regrouping at a faster rate than we can imagine. This Mumbai operation is well executed plan and targetted to raise chaos. Its distrubing the way an extremely minute population of Westerners and Israellis were targetted in an Indian city of about 19 mill people. Mumbai police and Indian Govt. inefficiency is extremely bothersome. The city has been target for terrorists for quite some time. I am suprised they did not have a tactical response unit when something lke this happpened. Govt. and Intelligence failure is given. But I would also like to remind you it took only about 10 people to cause 9/11. Its not the number of people on the ground. It's the planing and funding behind the operation. Recent reports also point to Mafia(Dawood Ibrahim) involvement. It there is any truth behind this, It's high time for Indian government to pursue him by any means. They just can't keep begging Pakistan and other governments. This is the second major attack he is linked with, apart from several small incidents
Are you being serious? If you are that's the most ignornant thing I'll probably read this week (of course, it's only Monday). While, the Brits did indeed make a "country" out of city states and small kingdoms, saying that India would be like Africa (by the way, which country in Africa are you referring to? There's a slight difference in Egypt vs. say, Somalia don't you think?), is the height of foolishness. Civilization had existed for THOUSANDS of years in India prior to the British Raj. But I guess Indians should thank the British for enslaving them in their own country for a couple of centuries and "civilizing," them. Goodness they'd probably still be running around in loincloths if it wasn't for the Queen Mum! By the way, I don't see how the attacks have anything to do with Britain.
Interesting article. While I think it is worthwhile to recognize it as evil, I don't think it's useful to dispense with motive. Evil actions have motivations. And, knowing what the motivation was would help India (1) catch perpetrators and (2) deter repeats of the crime.
