so dont go to work is what your saying? or be phychic? i really dont understand what you are trying to say.
I think the media is partially to blame for the negative feelings towards ALL muslims worldwide. If you watch shows like "Dateline", "20/20", etc. they always seem to report on Muslims who feel the events that occurred on 9/11 were right and necessary. In fact, I saw an episode last week where a reporter went to Saudi Arabia and only interviewed men who agreed with Bin Laden. Rarely do they have stories of the majority of Muslims who were horrified by the acts. Of course, that would be due to a need for ratings and nothing gets higher ratings than controversial television (hello Jerry Springer).
Oh no! I guess we must attack Iraq asap, though they had nothing to do with the 9/11 attack. Hey no need to talk about Cheney's invlovement in Halliburton or Bush's with Harkin Oil, when the sky is falling. I mean the terrorists will get you. Be scared. Be very scared. Just follow Bush/Cheney and Ashcroft and they will protect you. Trust them. They'll take care of those bad terrorists for you if will just let them pass the laws they want.
glynch: Is that your tongue potruding through your cheek or did you mean every word you wrote?
giddyup, I can't be certain that this is the point of this particular alert. I have little doubt that much of the Bush/Cheney/Ashcroft approach to the aftermah of 9/11 has that motivation.. Do you really trust all politicians not to manipulate public opinion ? Or just Bush?
Originally posted by F.D. Khan I don't understand why it would be an act by a "vigilante" A vigilante takes justice into his own hands against someone that has committed a crime. A middle eastern individual in the streets is just as innocent as the people in the World Trade Center. I think he meant that the idiots would THINK that they are being vigilantes. Even if there was violence against percieved muslims following another terrorist attack, the type of ignorant fools that would force such acts are probably not even intelligent enough to differentiate between a Hindu, Seikh or muslim, let alone a Arab (Middle Eastern) Muslim versus an ETHNIC muslim from Indonesia, China, Russia, Bosnia, Bulgaria, Turkey, Pakistan, Ethiopia, Somalia or Algeria. Oh, I think that they'd be a lot less intelligent than that. Its is completely idiotic to blame Over a Billion muslims worldwide for the insane actions of a few. That goes without saying, but it's missleading to say that it's only a few. Should Muslims despise Christians because of Pinochet, Hitler, Milosevic, Stalin, David Koresh, the IRA or Jeffrey Dahmer?? You probably should have just stopped at the prior statement. But for the sake of logic... Do we even know which of these guys are Christian? But that's not really relevant anyway, since none of them did things in the name of their religion except Koresh, which may be the one half-decent analogy, but even that one falls apart since he did not 'target' people from other religions. Its just ironic how when a crime or act of violence is done by a muslim it is the religion that is evil and the religion is put on trial, versus in other evil actions it is simply seen as the individual. Western history does look down upon the Crusades, the Inquisition, witch trials, etc., so Islam is not the only religion open to criticism. The problem right now is that there are indications that it is more than just an isolated group like the wackos from Waco. There appear to be many muslim who celebrate 9-11, and that portions of the Koran seem to support violence against 'non-believers'. The ONLY reason that I mention this is because the present situation DOES draw attention to Islam and raises questions. There is a long history of Islam living extremely well and peaceful with other religions and a super-majority of the 1 billion mulsims are peaceful, so I personally do not feel it is a problem with Islam overall, but don't act like the questions are somehow surprising or unique. Given the current situation, would you really expect that people wouldn't at least raise questions?
I think I trust just about anyone more in a time of crisis. I think I could have seen through Adolf Hitler, though!
Well, its partially the Medias fault. But everyone else in the world believes that US foreign policy was the reason for the attacks, not just the Muslims. And y'all shouldn't jump at NJRocket he wasnt advocating the beatings of Middle Easterners.
Originally posted by Tenchi Well, its partially the Medias fault. But everyone else in the world believes that US foreign policy was the reason for the attacks, not just the Muslims. Not nearly 'everyone'. And the percentages are probably materially different between 'everyone' and muslims. For instance, most mulsims still do not believe that Arabs are responsible for 9-11. Do you think that position is held by 'everyone else' also? It's funny that just over half (if I recall correctly) of French blame our foreign policy for the attacks, yet I wonder how they would have felt if the al qeada-linked terrorists had succeeded in flying a plane into the Eiffel Tower? Regardless, we made many mistakes in foreign policy, but putting a base in Saudi Arabia appeared to be more prudent than marching on Baghdad, and we end taking blame for that. And y'all shouldn't jump at NJRocket he wasnt advocating the beatings of Middle Easterners. That's pretty clear.
Although some believe it was the US's foreign policy that might had fueled the antagonism against American that doesn't mean the attacks are morally justified. We have to remember just under 3,000 regular Joes like you and me were brutally murdered. More importantly just under 3,000 Americans were killed in an indefinable act of war. As for the ridiculous idea that these alerts and the country's Home Land office are all just a smoke screen... come again? I believe that some politicians can be manipulated by lobbyists and special interest regarding some issues but the country's homeland security? Are you kidding? Saddam Hussein in the 10 years since the Gulf War ended, has said that he has always considered himself at war with America. This is a country that had ties to the WTC bombing in 1993. Lets not forget the attempt to assassinate former President George Bush senior in Kuwait, in 1993 . May I mention the countless number of military defectors that have not only said that this guy is trying to aquire weapons of mass destruction but has also spoken of a secret government camps in Iraq which is training terrorists. Did I mention this is the same man that carried out a mass genocide of the Kurds in Iraq. Did I say he poisoned his own people? But no wait the government is staging the entire thing. They are just trying to oust Saddam Hussein who in all actuality is a good guy and would never hurt a soul. Its just the hostile Americans doing what they do best by trying to kill innocent dictators who want nothing more than peace, love, and tranquility in this world. America is the only country I know of that after war after war after war they help rebuild. WWII after the Japanese were defeated we helped rebuild their country which was in ruins after the Hiroshima event. The only country that went into Afghanistan defeated the enemy and liberated their people. Who picked up the tab for the funding of a new government in Afghanistan? It couldn't be evil Americans again could it? Yes. We have our guys over there protecting the President as we speak. Could this be the same nation that went back into Iraq after we defeated Saddam and helped provide relief and assistance in "Operation Provide Comfort" in which a safe haven was made for these people. As far as current events go many Muslims live in poverty courtesy of these tyrannical regimes that look out only for themselves. And these people are easy prey for the radicals who run these countries. They fill their heads with propaganda and hate. The religion of Islam has been raped by these few radicals. But as far as the media goes I believe it differs from the different outlets. Some of the big media outlets such as ABC, NBC, and the New York Times have been most critical of say a war in Iraq. But I believe Fox News is the worst when its comes to this. As far as the new alerts go its a concern. But I believe there is probably more of an urgency by some of the lower echelon terrorists if there is such a thing to just blow something up for the hell of it to mark the day. If they do try to attack tomorrow then Allah be with them because they'll be blown away more ways than one. I apologiz if I offended anyone it was not my intention. God Bless You And Yours And God Bless America.
Excellent point drapg. I think that the general public looks at these news shows and says to themselves, "wow, all muslims hate all americans...that muslim just said so."
Didn't offend me, I liked it. (Although we are not the only country that went into Afghanistan, Britain and Canada are there also)
Yes. The Canadiens also lost some of their soldiers in that horrible friendly fire incident which I am sorry I failed to mention as well as their assistance in rebuilding a better tomorrow for the Afghan children. Without the Brits and Canadiens it wouldn't be possible. I know how emotionally charged the issue of our foreign policy is. I'm not saying its not flawed in certain instances. It might be. I know many children in Iraq at the time of Desert Storm died because of an attack on the Iraqi water system. And the following sanctions didn't heal any wounds. But I believe if Saddam is ousted from Iraq that country can begin to heal and prosper and benefit just as the Afghans did once the Taliban were run out of dodge. Now I'm just trying to look at things from both sides and I think its easier to do so now. But even though certain things have changed I still like to listen to Rage Against the Machine(Of late.) or System of a Down or other socially and politically mindful artists. There is just too much grey out there now. Everything isn't black and white anymore. I thank Glynch and Cohen for respecting my thoughts. I think I was a little bit more sarcastic than I intended which is why I wanted to apologize(Finally I get to correct that typo. ^_^).
