The administration gets hammered by the left if they have information and don't let the public know. When they do let the public know they have information on a possible attack, they get hammered by the left for trying to scare people for political gain. If there were to be an attack, and the administration had received information beforehand, but didn't alert the public, they would again get hammered by the left. Politics.
And it's exactly the same type of politics that would be practiced by the right if the roles were reversed. Politics is politics, and it is an awfully stinky thing.
You know.....you could just party like hell all the time, and you'd always be covered. I think that's what Jim Morrison did, and it worked for him.
Yes, I could, but unfortunately I have a day job that I have to do well so I can pay for whatever partying I do. If I Jim Morrison-ed it up, I'd probably lose my job, and then in order to party I'd have to steal malt liquor from a 7-11 or burglarize a crackhouse. I do like your suggestion, however!

Walking through metal detectors at airports does not have much to do with rights and liberties. Possibly, no one else here would have a problem with an encroachment by the government upon your definition of rights and liberties. So the rest of you think life should go back to pre-9/11? ... Who said that?
I never hammered them for not WARNING anyone. For not knowing? Well, the CIA and FBI do bear responsibility for this, but it's freakin' hard to catch everything and everyone. I don't mind the warnings, if they are specific. I just don't see the point in the random, "Be afraid! Be very afraid" I think Pole is dead on: CYA.
Well in australia we got our terrorism information pack this week, with helpful tips on how to spot terrorists and a lovely fridge thank you Mr Howard for wasting millions on this. I'm returning mine to sender!!!!!
What information have they giving up?????? That there might be an attack? REEEEEEEEEEAAAAAALLLLLLY. There is more a chance that you get gunned down walking down the streets of any major metropolis than being a victim of terrorist attacks. This is by far the most idiotic (cough cough) warning in the history of mankind. What are they warning us of?
http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2003/02/20030207-10.html Jeff, I am glad you asked the question on what you are suppose to do...Some people just don't know what to do...The site helps to materialize and implement a plan. It further covers several terrorist attack scenarios and one should envision a plan to keep in mind. We should all have an contingency luggage at ready complete with first aid kit and a pre-conceived plan regarding contacting family if normal comunications is compromised. You asked "what exactly am I supposed to do now that the alert is higher?", and to that I say re-check your plan...re-check your vigilance... It is as simple as that...
I kind of like the orange. I do wish they wouldn't cover up the pretty colors with those words though.
Why is it so idiotic? Sounds like there are indications of increased terrorist activity. Would you prefer that the gov doesn't tell us when there is some evidence of impending terrorist attack? I would rather know. I would feel more comfortable knowing that those who may witness suspicious activity will be more inclined to report it.
Ok Im warned......now what. Should I go prowling the streets for anyone that looks like a terrorist and call it to the police. Be more aware of suspicious activity? I dont know, but If I saw something suspicious, Id do what was necessary anyhow.
that's good that you would, but that's not the case with everyone else...it just heightens the awareness having said that, this system really isn't for individuals. it's for law enforcement and security personnel around the country. we are individuals are an intended recipient of the message...but not the primary one.
I'm guessing if someone wouldn't report any suspicious behavior before the alert, they wouldn't do it after...just me. BTW, don't take this as an attack on the alerts, just my opinion about it.
What are the chances of you not going to work or you not spending some time outside on the weekend because of a general indeterminate alert? Would you cancel your flight that day and hope they lower the alert the next? The dependence upon our public workers to handle a crisis is going to determine what's going to work here because there's only so much a regular person can do in such an event that different levels of alerts won't make it better or worse.
anyone see Jimmy Kimmel's comparison of the terror alert colors to those in tropical flavored Skittles? pretty funny stuff.
