Not everything is black and white. This kind of behavior from the family increases his chances that he won't have normal relationships with other people. How can you trust classmates and friends if you can't even believe your own family?
Yeah, it isn't black and white... http://www.youtube.com/comment_servlet?all_comments&v=VhO-OE931D4&fromurl=/watch?v=VhO-OE931D4 metalheadzmusic :did you actualy not get him on?!?!? or did you just hide it and give him it later? theycallhimart :yeah after he ran out my mom put it back and asked him to try his cloths on metalheadzmusic h right lol good i thought you acctualy didnt for a second then SuicideFriendly :Man that is too cruel for words. Was he still mad when he finally got it? theycallhimart :yeah a lil bit Anyways, even kids with normal families can get messed up from their friends. My family pulled these types of pranks on me when I was a kid, but I wouldn't try to blame my dysfunctions on them.
No one is saying this single incident will force him into a life of crime or serial killings. Just remember if this kid grows up to be a fine, upstanding citizen it will be DESPITE this incident and not because of it.
Actually I think this is his parents' way of promoting becoming a good upstanding citizen. They are promoting getting something useful (winter clothes) instead of something merely for entertainment (xbox360). God knows this country is screwed because the vast majority of people go into debt on things they can't afford, or borrow to live beyond their means. Why do you think the current subprime mortgage snafu is all about? I hate to play devil's advocate but just because you think this is sad and mean, doesn't mean it's bad for the kid. In 20 years he'll probably look back, and laugh and say to himself 'man, was mom right!' I mean, I guess it would be better for him to learn to get everything he wants and end up being on food stamps buying $3000 rims instead of getting an education? TL;DR - people need to seriously chill. And maybe go back to buying those 60" plasma HDTVs that they don't really need.
I'm rolling over in laughter here reading this comment a few replies below on that Youtube page: DarthRic1979 (3 weeks ago): Owned b****! That will teach ya to sneak peeks!

He's going to buy a shotgun with that cash. Or some high quality weed, and then forget about the whole thing.
It is cruel to do that, but since I actually really enjoyed kokopuffs' comic, I started thinking of what would be a non-jerk way to pull this prank on your kid... buy the xbox, but then take it out and rig the box with spring snakes that explode in the air. After he's scared say "haha! the xbox is right here actually!" and no feelings get hurt and everyone has fun
