i agree some with this. i'm excited about getting an athletic guy who can play both ends, pass, and rebound, but he is undersized to be a "true" small forward. and with lee and martin it doesn't look like he will get any minutes at the 2. then at the 3, battier is ahead of him and bud and him will be cutting into each other's minutes. so we almost have another patrick patterson situation here.

to me this trade is interesting because the pick is lotto protected until 2017. this means we still have flexibility if yao can't make it back. we can suck and not give up our first rounder for years if we move to tank/rebuild mode.

i dunno...everything seems to go back to us being stuck in this crappy holding pattern hoping yao can play basketball and stay healthy and it sucks. i really wish we could make a definitive move and start deconstructing the team...but that's just wishful thinking on my end.

But it hasn't been finalized yet right? Any link to where it says if the deal is done yet?

not yet. The deal probably gets finalized at the end of the day. Lot's of paper work for a 4 team trade.

I don't get this. If this move doesn't signify that we're looking to move on, I don't know what can be. How in the world is Williams a fit for Yao? If anything, he's as horrible a complement to Yao as humanly possible.

Not sure why you're not thrilled that we just made a move that is 100% for the future and 0% towards winning this year. It seems to be exactly the move you're looking for.

Feigan reported yesterday that the deal still could be tweaked a bit, but its done in principle. I assume the paperwork was filed this morning to the NBA and should be official before this afternoon. No link yet though. Im just hoping Morey is able to clear out somemore room with Jarred Jefferies, but that probably wont get done till the trade deadline unfortunately.

Indeed, last I read was that all the teams involved would be on a conference call this morning with the league to finish off the deal. Unless TWill, Smith or Mr.Sharapova fails a physical, deal is done.

Give this kid a season or two mentored by Shane and he becomes the new and improved Batman. Shane's project.

I wouldn't give up anyone for him. I think the 2012 draft pick is more than enough.

i am happy we made the move. however, it doesn't mean we are blowing up in the team imo. yes this move is for the future, but it's not like williams really has a position where he can play significant minutes yet. if there are more moves then i'll be very happy, but this is a promising start. to me this feels like more of an opportunistic move rather than rebuilding...time will tell! :)

Morey said ever deal he makes is looking toward the future. Some is long term some is mid term but all is for the Rockets future. As for the T-Will trade. I would say it is more for the middle term. If he pans out we will have immediate help at the 3. Bud struggles on D and Battier struggles on the offense. Not to mention Battier is still very smart defensively but a bit slower. T-Will could give us a decent 2-way player if he pans out. I am sure that is Morey's hope. He certainly saw T-Will's talent on display in China. Watch Videos Here

I don't see how he wouldn't fit in with Yao. It seems alot of people here have not watched him these 2 years. If anybody has the skill set to compliment Yao, it's him. He's an above average passer (pick an roll?) that can slash, create for himself, and finish.

That's IF Yao will be here after this season.

Hill is an above average passer for his position. His length is a positive at the PF position. His speed is a positive at his position. He has all the tools. He just needs to develop more moves down low to eliminate those awkward shots. I would say his biggest knock is that he is not very fluid (not many big men are). Learning from CD + Sikma + Olajuwon = Improved Hill. We haven't even had our hands on him for a full season yet! His role on the offensive end isn't to improvise on the post. Let him develop more moves before saying he has no instincts.

I don't understand how you're thinking we're making a move that is 100% for the future when we're bringing in a player that can contribute immediately as opposed to waiting for that "future draft pick" to produce. I think this move helps us both present and future.

How do you know Williams isn't a fit for Yao? It doesn't hurt to try and "plug & play" and see if it works. Very low risk move IMO.

Also, what if Yao is a great compliment to Williams and he helps him take his game to the next level? I'm sure with Yao's passing ability and with the doubles that he draws Williams' will have plenty of opportunities to make his mark.

OKLAHOMA CITY — When the New Jersey Nets chose Terrence Williams with the 11th pick of the 2009 draft, Rockets general manager Daryl Morey considered it a good value and a wise choice.
A little more than a season later, he made the same bet.
The Rockets completed the three-team deal to acquire Williams on Wednesday, sending a lottery-protected 2012 first-round pick to New Jersey, taking the chance that Williams could overcome the issues that had stalled his career with the Nets. If the Rockets remain in the lottery through 2017, the pick would become a second-rounder.
In the trade, the Nets sent Joe Smith and two second-round picks to the Lakers, for Sasha Vujacic and a first-round pick. The Lakers get the draft rights to Sergei Lishouk from the Rockets. The rights to Lishouk were acquired from Memphis, but he was never in the Rockets' plans.
"We felt like that draft, Terrence had top 10 talent," Morey said Wednesday. "We still believe that. We think a fresh start might be exactly what he needs to show what he can do. It's going to have to be something he shows the coaching staff how he can help us win. I think it is a good situation for us here."
Williams had been asked to stay away from the Nets for two days because of issues that included habitual tardiness before he was sent to the NBA Development League for three games. He averaged just 6.7 points on 39.7 percent shooting in 10 games with the Nets. In three games in the D-League, Williams averaged 28 points, 11.3 rebounds and 10.7 assists.
"He's a player that has got two-way potential, a strong defender, good rebounder, good passer, good ball-handler," Morey said. "He has a really versatile game we think can help over time."
Hoping a second chance would help Williams overcome the issues that he could not with the Nets, Morey said he would not be judged by his reputation.
"I always try to judge players as I know them," Morey said. "We're going to judge Terrence by how he is in Houston, not rumors or what others are saying."
To make room for Williams on the roster, Jermaine Taylor and cash were sent to Sacramento for a second-round pick the Rockets are extremely unlikely to ever receive. The pick is top 55 protected, so the Rockets will only get the pick if the Kings, who have the second-worst record in the NBA, finish this season with one of the top five records.
"Jermaine didn't get much opportunity to play here because of our depth," Morey said. "Coach and I met with him after the game (on Tuesday). We were very impressed throughout with how professional he was for such a young player. Not easy for any player. We're certain he'll have success in this league. Coach Adelman obviously knows the Sacramento front office well. He thinks he has a really chance to help them."
The moves leave the Rockets' roster crowded at small forward with starter Shane Battier and backup Chase Budinger, who has shown signs of overcoming his shooting slump in the past two games, hitting 13 of 20 shots. Williams' offensive game places more emphasis on dribble penetration with playmaking skills, but he likely will initially have to compete for playing time.
"I think he's definitely different from the players we have," Morey said. "We have a lot of faith in coach (Rick) Adelman to mix and match players of different skill sets. He's going to put on the floor the players he thinks give us the best chance to win."

What? When Hill enters the game the layup line slows way down at our rim.......he is showing serious promise......not as a superstar player but as a legitimate role player at the PF position.

I am a legitimate role player for my company...That dont mean Im not irreplaceable....Jordan is a bust so far....The problem with these drafts is when these youngsters declare early its basically upside is all people drool over...These youngsters cant play a lick of team ball and when they get to the NBA they usually are poor fundamentally , foul prone, lightweight athletes...ie Jordan Hill...how is he showing serious promise when he cant beat out CHuck Hayes on this defensively challenged team??...Other than that DD you da man with this NBA stuff....youre a sports geek to the 5th power...lol..
