Wow, the Nets are serious about reforming him I guess, looks like his attitude issues are for real. He's clearly a good shooter, maybe it got to his head because the Nets wouldn't of sent a productive player to the D-League otherwise.
Great passer & rebounder from the SG spot... Hope he gets to work... This happens to young guys sometimes. People forget how young and ummature some of these guys really are, They are kids...
There's a decent NBA Fanhouse article on this (via Basketball Reference) http://nba.fanhouse.com/2010/11/26/nets-all-wrong-in-terrence-williams-demotion-to-d-league/ Nets All Wrong in Terrence Williams' 'Demotion' to D-League One step forward, two steps back. That seems to be the M.O. of the New Jersey Nets when it comes to their relation to the D-League. Today the Nets announced that they're sending Terrence Williams on assignment to the D-League. Not because of injury, not because he actually needs the work, not because they don't have room for him on roster. No, they're sending him to the Springfield Armor on assignment as punishment for being habitually late to meetings. They're punishing Terrence Williams for his behavior by sending him to the D-League, and in doing so, are hurting themselves, Williams, and the league at an extremely volatile time. NBA teams are restricted in assigning players to their D-League affiliate to only being able to do so in the player's first two years in the league. After that, if they want him in the affiliate, they have to waive him and hope he elects to join the D-League. It's a curious and frustrating rule, as many players need more than two years to get their feet under them, or need a rehab assignment in later years. There are several reasons for the restriction, but one is that the player's union in CBA negotiations didn't want teams to simply use the D-League as a punitive system. Trapping the player in the D-League forces him to deal with the D-League conditions (low travel budgets, lack of staff, lesser accommodations), and that's not supposed to be the intent of the league. The D-League is a place to get players floor time, to work with them on specific parts of their game that they need to improve on in order to become NBA-caliber players, to fix kinks in their game and regain confidence. It's not meant as a lesser environment to send players down to punish them because you don't get along with them. {more in article}
Yes sending down the number 1 pick in the draft to the D-League for no reason would be a brilliant idea.
Just saying, LeBron is known to be an egotistical douche. That doesn't pop up randomly. He must have had a history of this, but Cleveland being in denial just pampered him and allowed it to mature into what he is today. I love LeBron and I think he's a talented athlete, but he looks like a complete moron when it comes to PR. It's like he assumes that everyone should praise every little action he takes and acts dumbfounded when people disapprove.
So he should be demoted to the d-league because he's egotistical and has no pr skills? Being humble isn't a requirement in the NBA, nor is it a component of success. By your logic Shane Battier and Luther Head should be franchise players for their own team, as they're the model of professionalism and humilty. Unless you happened to be the owner of the franchise, good luck trying to send their star player to the d-league "to learn humility'. I'm sure the owner/gm would look at you like you're crazy and fire you the next day.
Just my own observation .. All this stuff now about who's "douche" and who's "arrogant"... when did guys start even caring about what other guys are doing so much, or WHY? Let all that self conscious nitpicking cattiness stay with the WOMEN like it belongs
Since players are much more exposed today than in the past, fans get to see more of who they are. You can't hide behind a Wheaties box and pretend to be an upstanding citizen when in reality you're an ass with an scary obsession with winning. It's not about because people today are b****es compared to the men of yesteryear. We see more aspects of athletes now and we judge them accordingly.
On the D-league demotion, I don't think its a total absolute that you should NOT send down a player for disciplinary reasons. Rockets had a little of that in mind when sending Joey Dorsey down for being an unfocused party monster. We don't know if the player gets WARNED repeatedly ahead of time about the consequences of a D-League promotion. The consequence still should be within reason of course, you can't punch a guy in the gut because "advance notice" makes it fair. But if they've told Terrence Williams 25 times to his face what'll happen for his excessive tardiness and Williams didnt listen, Williams partly has himself to blame. Right, agree. I was saying that of things even outside of sports, too. "Look at that Ed Hardy shirt...OMG, DOUCHE. Die." But I should not have gone Hangout mode social commentary in the hoops side of the forum. NBA players definitely always get more personal criticism than other athletes because the nature of the sport exposes more of them physically for the public to see than other sports. I've said 90% of all NBA players are "overrated" according to fans. There are literally no "rightly-rated" players
How is he being a jackass? If Terrence wants to be in the professional league, then he should act professional.
Honestly, if Terrence doesn't want to show up to work on time to earn his 2.2 million, the Nets can do what they want with him.
