I am pretty disappointed on him also. I guess the Rockets let him pass the Summer League was a mistake, he needs more playing time.
Right. Because every good NBA player is so intelligent. I always wonder why people are so obsessed with athletes being intelligent.....
Honestly, I think he just has a low bball IQ. He'll never become a great(all-star and above) basketball player because of it. But it's his third season, second getting regular minutes in the league. Don't give up on him yet. He can make improvements. I would say it would be great if he had a mentor to teach him how to be a better 4... but he has McHale as a coach. What more do you freaking need?
Why would anyone wait for the season to start? His job is up for grabs, he should be going out there earning it shouldn't he? He's a fringe starter, he hasn't earned the luxury of sleep walking through the preseason.
Which part? McHale said the starting PF spot was up for grabs and he hasn't looked good thus far. What part of that is "knee jerk"?
He was wearing some Jordans XIV Red Ferrari last night. That was awesome. I think he is OK he even said it is preseason
I feel like TJones will be traded at the deadline and be one of those players that will flourish elsewhere, just because that's what happens to Houston sports.
He's going to be the starter on opening night. We don't have anyone any better at this point. I'm sure Morey has been trying to upgrade the position, but he's not going to make a move that will restrict futures moves, unless he can add an "elite" player. A small upgrade at PF isn't going to make the Rockets contenders and Morey knows that. Jones performance in the box score will not be consistent because he is the 4th or 5th option on offense. What I'm hoping to see is improvement on defense, and I believe he will improve over the next few years. He's 22yrs old so he has plenty of time to improve. I know many are unhappy that we don't have an "elite" player at power forward, but we aren't close to being contenders without a major trade at this point anyway. So, Jones is the best we have at that position right now and it doesn't do any good bash the guy everytime he has a poor game. He's a 22yr old learning the game.
What he did so well at first was to rebound on the offensive end and finish or to just receive the ball close to the rim and finish. He definitely has not been as good there. I just like Motiejunas more at this point. We need to commit to that guy as a starter. Let Jones ISO and score off of the bench.
I'm pretty sure Harden mentioned that TJ has been working hard all summer in an interview recently. Preseason performance means jack when it comes to established players, even young ones. Jones will be at least as good as he was last season and probably a bit better.
We're not talking about an established player, we're talking about Jones who is a fringe starter to the point where the story was that the PF spot was up for grabs. If he actually was an established player, that wouldn't be the case. I think the reason they said that the PF spot was up for grabs was because they were hoping he'd step up his game and earn it....he hasn't.
It's 50/50 whether Terrence is even on the roster opening night. And if he is on the roster opening night, it's 50/50 whether he is the starter. He's simply not done enough to earn it (like last season). He MAY be the starter by default. Either because McHale doesn't feel we have anybody better OR because Morey is still trying to max his trade value to trade him. But he has done nothing to earn the starting spot.
