SMH... by "threat" I ment he's capable of knocking down the open jump shot, keeping the defender honest (from sagging off of him).
I seen him knock down that jumper in maybe 2 games. That is why he was sent to the end of the bench. Come on, I hope he improves, but like I said he didnt do nothing to keep defenders honest. lol
He was inconsistent as well. Blows defensive assignments too much. LOL every players has his weaknesses on the court.
None of Smith, D-mo or Jones are ready to start. They were terrible on rotations last year. D-mo was the worst, followed by Jones. Smith is okay on his rotations but he very very one dimensional. He has one post move and other than that relies on a setup guy to get open looks. Who knows what these guys pick up in the offseason, but right now PF is a serious problem for us.
You know what I've seen this guy for a long time, he's a good shooter. He's not Dirk Nowitzki by any means, but he can make opposing players pay if they sag off of him. BTW they sent him to the bench because of his poor defense, and because he got foul trouble early, not because he couldn't shoot.
I think D-Mo may have the higher ceiling, but he definitely has the lower floor too. Jones was the better player last year. Don't understand why he didn't get more playing time. I hope that D-Mo develops his corner three-point shot, but last year Jones shot threes much better in the D-league than D-Mo did.
They'll battle it out in training camp and pre-season I'm sure. Personally I really hope DMo play well. Because I see him as a PF/C. If he can play solid defense, he can be Dwight's backup in a potential deadline Asik deal. If he sucks, I feel Morey may be hesitant to trade Asik and have Smith or Jones be the backup center.
Hopefully these are not our only options for PF... DMo, Jones and even smith in the PF role are not the makings of a top notch team yet. Need someone who is consistent and with above average talent.
Not gonna lie, I still really like TJones. Honestly, I think he is a poor man's Josh Smith or could be the same type of player in my eyes.
It is not difficult to figure out who will get most of the minutes between D-Mo and T-Jones - it is the one who develops the best 3 point shot and adequate defense next to Howard. Smith is not even in the conversation because in the modern NBA you must be able to clear the paint on offense to let the lethal slashers room to work. And the Rockets have Lin and Harden. If the PF cannot draw his man far enough from the basket the driving lanes close down. The Rockets offense last season set up with 4 on the 3 point line and Asik offset 6 to eight feet to the weak side of the basket. I expect to see that set around 1500 times next season.
I dont get the DMo love affair. I like the skills, which look like Pau sometimes, but mostly looks bad. Jones is inconsistent as well, but doesnt need the ball to be effective.
Those were factors as well. But dude couldnt hit the side of a barn pimpn. Can he shoot, well of course but he quickly lost confidence and it was a wrap. To the end of the bench he went.
