Disagree. Both have exceptional ability, Moss's greatness being more linear, Owens being individually unstoppable, but for all his baggage, Owens comes to play every down of every game, Moss does not.
Boller is a bit of an enigma. In high school, he was unheralded until his senior year when he broke all type of records and showed a strong arm. I was at CAL when he arrived and he was considered the savior of the program. In his first three years, he was closer to horrible than mediocre. Of course, CAL was horrible in those three years and Boller ended up being the most sacked QB in the Pac-10. Well, CAL brought in Tedford as the head coach and it was deja vu for Boller all over again. Tedford (who had success with Akili Smith and Joey Harrington) instilled a more open offense and suddenly Boller has scouts savoring again. Successful season, even more successful combine equaled a first round pick for Boller. His first year at Baltimore was similar to his first year at CAL: tentative and injury-filled. But, Billick is known to be good w/ QBs so I think Boller will end up being pretty good. If the pattern holds, it should be no later than his fourth year.
You guys must be kidding. Moss is the only guy out there putting up numbers that can catch Rice, in every category.
I don't understand this at all. Why draft a project (because that's what late first round picks are) when you can get a superstar receiver who has at least 4 years left? It's safe to assume that Owens, whose training rivals that of Jerry Rice, will be around for more than four years, barring injury. Also, in today's NFL, you cannot assume a rookie will be with your team after 3-4 years.
Late 1st round picks are not projects, In most NFL Drafts the talent runs well through the 2nd round until some teams start taking projects. The 49ers are obviously trying to build for the future by clearing up cap space and restocking with a younger core of players.
Well it's all over now. So the Niners have a mid 1st round, and 2 2nd rounders as of now. If I were the Sooper Genius Bil Walsh.... 1. Trade down to the mid twenties, acquire an extra 2nd rounder if possible. 2. Draft D'Angelo Hall with the 1st rounder. 3. Try to get Nathan Vasher, JP Losman, Tubbs in the 2nd round.
I meant "projects" in terms of becoming superstars. I agree that even an early second rounder should get you a solid player. But to say that a late first rounder would be equal to Terrell Owens is asinine.
Bill Walsh is no longer with the team. He was smart enough to get off this sinking ship captained by York and Donahue.
Free Agency makes the first three rounds very important in every draft. Every team faces cap issues every year and they are constantly filling in pieces. In the NFL, you build through the draft. Just look at the Titans, probably the most consistent team in the past five seasons. They are losing Jevon Kearse, Rober Smith, and they might have to let Eddie George go. Three key starters. This is after already losing guys like John Runyan and Dernard Walker. You can't be giving your draft picks away willy nilly for guys who may not be there down the road.
Whether he's the best receiver is debatable, but I agree. You can't expect to have an ultimatum like that. Owens did not want to be there and you don't want to keep a player who is just going to cause more harm than good. This draft is really deep with receivers, so if they wanted to, they could get another solid prospect.
I suppose it depends on the team. Obviously, the Ravens feel like they have a shot next year with their defense. Therefore, trading for Owens instead of waiting on a prospect to develop is worth it.
Plus, the other thing is its a bad year to be trading wide recievers, or for wide recevier free agents due to the stregnth of the position in the draft.
Let's see, you can either have Terrell Owens and not have to give him any signing bonus or draft either Michael Jenkins or Rashaun Woods with the 51st pick. I'd rather have Terrell, even with only 4 years of greatness left.
Give me a choice of any WR for 1 game I'll take Randy Moss. Give me a choice of any WR for a season I'll take TO.
Are we talking about a first round pick or second round. Isn't Philly's second round pick later than Baltimore's, so they only have the first round pick to bargin with.
Exactly and Philly picks lower so they wouldn't have to sweeten the deal or give them their first rounder.
I would think this would be pleasant news for Baltimore's divisional rivals, after all - the Raven's best option on offense is Jamal Lewis, but Brian Billick is too pass happy(as he proved again in the playoff loss) to completely put the offense on his back. Adding a viable reciever only encourages the egomaniac to put the ball in the hands of Kyle Boller or Anthony Wright or another QB in the revolving door at Baltimore rather than utilize his best weapon.
