Well they're just talking about the situation and have said that a woman who was with him is disputing this claim of attempted suicide.
2:30 EDT News Conference by the Dallas Cowboys today. Dallas police will have a news conference later today as well, no time announced on that one.
To be fair, there are now reports surfacing that he was asked to "seek professional help" and that he blew them off and got very angry. Also Denver brought him in for an interview and they allegedly backed off signing him because they found him to be "unstable". I'm listening to ESPN radio right now. At 10:00, I will switch over to Sportradio 1310 - The Ticket - to see what Norm Hitzges has to report on this story.
I would argue that a primadonna spoiled athlete is quite different than someone who attempts suicide. The sports world has always had guys like T.O., if maybe not to his scale.
My understanding is it was his publicist who called in saying he was attempting suicide. Emergency response gets there and he's still trying to throw down 2 more pills. All that's in the police report. There's some struggle over keeping him from getting those 2 other pills in him. There's a lot of backtracking to get this out of the realm of a suicide attempt, at this point.
I find it hard to have any concern for this guy if he's "depressed". There are just far too many people (anyone remember New Orleans?) with REAL problems out there that I feel concern for that truly need my help and sympathy.
Of course, depression isn't always caused by what you're doing in life or what you have gone through in your life.
this isn't "i feel bad today." this is clinical depression...chemical stuff. it's a physiological thing. this is like saying you don't have compassion for someone who has cancer. it's an illness.
No, the woman they are talking about is his publicist. She's doing her job by putting "spin" on the story.
Just cause he acts like a punk on the football field doesn't mean he's a punk in everyday life. We don't know how he acts in everyday life, so I will give him the benefit of the doubt. I feel bad for him. At times, he does act irrational but this negative media coverage certainly would have an effect on anybody.
No, they said a companion that was actually with him. They have talked to the publicist because that's where everybody is being directed and she is doing her job but I specifically heard them say a companion.
Exactly right, he seem like a complete ass when it comes to the football field and aspects in football period but he acts pretty good off the field from has been said about him.
I remember listening to a guy that Jim Rome interviewed last year, don't remember his name, but he was some sort of psychologist. I think he hit the nail on the head in saying TO had a mental disorder that made him crave attention, no matter what it took...something he couldn't really control. The disorder had a name that I can't remember, and wasn't all that common, except in adults that were outcasts as kids or didn't have a good childhood. From what he understood TO had a troubled childhood. He really was convincing though. I don't believe TO is just an ass ... since then I've thought there really was something mentally wrong with him (more than just a few loose screws, like Artest persay), and this story if true would support that.
I've always considered TO to not simply be another primadonna spoiled athlete. Those guys are normally fine, until they start making it big. TO has NEVER been stable... even back in San Fran, when he was claiming the star, and calling Garcia a homo.
Everyone goes through **** and it isn't like this guy doesn't have any and everything at his disposal. Here's an idea, stop acting like a jackass and get help if you need it. If someone smokes 2 packs of cigarettes a day for years and gets lung or throat cancer, I'm probably not going to feel too sorry for them. They knew the risks, continued doing what they do, and are now reaping what they sow. TO acts like a jackass and now no one likes him, gets depressed, and tries to kill himself. As my grand dad always said, you get what you get. So no, I don't feel sorry for him. Like HillBoy said, there are many, many, many people that have real problems and real reasons to be depressed and these people have little to nothing in the way of treatment options. These are the people that need help and sympathy, not jerk offs like TO.
It was the female companion who called 911 when he got sick. She was also trying to get him to spit up the pills. WFAA-TV talked to her at Baylor Hospital before they broke the suicide story. It was TO himself who admitted to the DPD that he tried to harm himself. Take a look at the police report posted earlier. His publicist has started spinning the story with the adverse reaction to a drug supplement claim.
