http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/tennis/wimbledon10/columns/story?columnist=garber_greg&id=5320490 Don't know who has been following this, and I didn't see this posted anywhere... 10 hour marathon, guys. 5th set, tiebreaker stands at a whopping 59-59. You need two points on the other guy to win the match. Mahut, or Isner?
To correct your post....the match is not tied at 59-59 in a tiebreaker. It is tied 59 GAMES to 59 GAMES. At Wimbledon, they do not play 5th set tiebreakers. And for one of them to win it, they will have to have a 2 game lead .... i.e. 61-59 or 64-62...somthing like that. As it is, the 5th set ALONE set the Wimbledon record for most games in a match which goes back to 1877. To sum it up...the word EPIC is completely inadequate.
What takes more energy: running a marathon, or playing 7 hrs of tennis in one day like these two did?
I didn't mention games, so there isn't anything to correct me on. And it IS a tiebreaker; I did say 2 points, meaning 2 games. I just worded it differently. And how is "epic" inadequate? What other word, synonymous with epic, can fit here, yet have a better, more grandiose meaning than "epic?" Can't wait to see who wins this.
Thats exactly why I DID mention it. You're original post said: ....indicating that it was in a tiebreaker. This was at worst factually incorrect and at best misleading. As shown above...yes there was. Although you probably weren't intending to mislead anyone your first post nevertheless does indeed do just that. Take more time to review your posts going forward and you won't have this occur. What I was alluding to was the idea that there are no words adequate to describe this match. Plus in this day and age...the word "epic" suffers from serious overuse to the point it almost cheapens the word. At least IMHO.
There is a thread about Wimbledon 2010: http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=188090 and since the post #24, they started talking about this match, so from the mid page 2 to the page 10 is all about that match
theresthedagger is right. there is no tiebreaker in the 5th set in wimbledon. anyway, the match will start around 3.30pm gmt for thos whos wondering. i'll go with isner since imo he was the better player before he got tired.
