Why Morey tirelessly signed scrub players one after another? I guess he is a little bit worried about this team next season could not play sucks enough to get John Wall. Good luck, Morey! but wait...Who does want to spend much money on Mr. TEMPLE's game?
Could be insecurity on Morey's part, as you mentioned, as far as which players to plug into the roster. Could be the coaching staff wants to get a look at some players that could make the roster later this year. Or some of these players could make the roster now. Will Barry be dealt? Bought out? Is there some other pending trade that would leave us short at some position?
Do we really lose anything by doing this? These are non-guranteed contracts after all, so might as well test them and see if anything pops up. Probably nothing happens and they're let go, but it's not really a loss.
Don't think he meant another player with a style similar to Wafer's. Think he meant another buried treasure who's simply waiting for his chance to break out. A player who is in a similar situation to Wafer's last season.
I agree. I was impressed with his defense during summer league. Granted it was summer league, but he was very good at shutting down players who had gotten on a hot streak during the games. He's a long, athletic defender, and if he gets a consistent outside shot, he will be an asset to any NBA team.
I wonder what a full deal would look like. I'd be satisfied with cash or a 2nd rounder if it's just Barry, hopefully going to the Celtics.
Correction: Kahn approached us about a possible deal. I'm not sure if Ainge and Morey exchanged words.
Boston ain't letting Perkins go. Doc's high on him. Love to see home boy (well, Beaumont) in a Rockets uniform, though. I happened to run into him at the Beaumont Wellness Center within the week after they'd signed KG. He was working out like crazy, really getting after it. He said, "I just want to make damned sure I'm not the reason those guys [KG, Ray] don't get a ring."
It will be a package deal but no way it includes ANY starter. Its a move to create roster space most likely...I'm intrigued by Tony Allen and JR Giddens though. Scalabrine is a 3.4 million expiring, Allen is $2.5 million and Gidden would be roughly a million.
Damn if the rockets are going to sign guards every offseason and cut them then they might as well sign Francis to see what he has and release him. This is getting out of hand. Especially a guard who is shorter than AB. I seen him play in college but thats what it is. College Ball. Hey maybe we can find a diamond in a rough with Conroy. Temple im not to sure about him.
I doubt we get any players in return. I'm just happy that there's finally a chance we are able to ship Brent Barry's ass off to Boston without the cost of a second rounder. BOS TA,Scal,Giddy ----> MIN MIN Atkins,Wilkins ----> BOS HOU Barry ----> BOS This is one likely scenario to go down. Works salary wise.
Actually, I'm not so sure that trade works for the Rockets from a salary cap standpoint. However, the following trade (with the same principal components) ought to work: Minnesota receives: Brian Scalabrine ($3.4M), Tony Allen ($2.5M) and J.R. Giddens ($1.0M) Boston receives: Damien Wilkens ($3.6M), Brent Barry ($2.0M) and James White ($825k, non-guaranteed) Houston receives: Chucky Atkins ($3.4M, partially guaranteed for only ~$760k) Houston would save about $2.5M with this trade, which leads me to believe that the Rockets would probably throw in some cash, most likely to Minnesota. Boston also saves a little money with the deal, while getting Wilkins, who might be able to contribute off the bench for the Celtics. The T-Wolves take on more guaranteed salary with this deal, so either they really like Giddens and/or would get cash or picks out of the deal. Or, this could all be bunk. But the fact that the September 27 date being the earliest such a deal could be made is legit.
