If there is an injury to a player and the Rockets need to pick somebody up to fill in for a month (or whatever timeframe), getting somebody that is already familiar with the roster and plays - philosophy is a bonus. Also, if another team makes a trade offer to the Rockets that is hard to refuse, having as many options available as possible to wargame roster scenarios is a help.
Speaking of Joey Dorsey, I saw him at the club at which I work at. He does not look as big as I thought he was going to be. He was playing a lot around 15 feet range. My client wanted to get her picture taken with him.
Not sure what these guys can contribute......except scrimmage partners. But there is always a chance that they may have more value than in the scrimmages. We'll just have to wait and see.
andersen-dorsey-pops scola-landry-chuck shane-chase-white ariza-jt-temple brooks-lowry-conroy balances out the training camp rosters. (assuming barry and cook are on the outs)
if barry and cook are on the out......we're sure to get some players back in return right? So that roster u listed is nowhere near the final one. I think training camp fodder lyk Conroy and Garrett is a win-win situation in anyway u look at it.......the training camp invitees get nba calibre training and conditioning while learning nba playbooks and defenses so even if they are cut by us......they will still appeal greatly to other teams as they know their way around a nba court with all the nba-level plays and defensive schemes they are learning... heck, maybe some team will pick them up just so they act lyk a spy to inform them of our plays and calls lol there is nothign to suggest landry will be on the out....in fact I personally think he's here for the long run...we need big bodies with yao out and now ramon sessions is gone.....whos worth getting???
Good point. Isn't that, essentially, how Chuck Hayes became a Rocket? Of course, those stories are rare, more often you have the Matt Haryasz story (cut and never to be heard from again) or the Kelena Azubuike story (cut and picked up by another team), but it's still good to get another look at a player in whom you have interest just in case you need them either now or later. It works out generally for the players, too... not only do they get a (long) shot at a Rockets spot, they also get to showcase a little for other teams in the league and in overseas leagues (can't hurt for an agent to be able to tell the Slovenian barn-league GM that an NBA team liked his client enough to invite him to camp).
i never said this is the final roster. in fact i said this would be the training camp rosters. three 5 man teams, since yao and tmac are not participating in 5 on 5 drills. i also doubt that we get anything in return for cook or barry. when i said i think they are on the outs, i meant that they will be bought out, cut, or traded to a team with the ability to absorb their contract without sending anything back to us. like sending francis to memphis last year.
I always had a feeling that the Rockets would bring Will Conroy into camp. With only two PGs (Brooks and Lowry) on the roster, it would be a mini-disaster if either Brooks or Lowry got injured and the team didn't have two PGs to run any 5-on-5 scrimmages. Also, it's good to know that the Rockets FINALLY signed Ramon Sessi...I mean, Garrett Temple. People DO realize that it was Temple's head that people thought was really that of Ramon Sessions, right?
Why would we want another Wafer? I thought he was a selfish chucker who cost us the Laker series when he got shut down by Vujacic, and that's why Morey is a genius for letting him walk. Somebody please explain...
im sure they could also be sent down to the developmental team and brought up later on in case an injury took place... it also states they might sign another center in the article... thts interesting
keeping barry and cook just to so they can be traded later in the season to an under the cap team will get the rockets under the luxury tax. throwing these players a training camp contract guarantees them around $40k. maybe training camp contract + vipers contract is enough to compete against an overseas offer? white, conroy, temple, ramos, and pops all to play for the vipers?
You're not serious, are you? Have you not heard the first hundred times people on this BBS have explained that the Rockets cannot have more than 15 players on their roster, and that INCLUDES any players sent down to the D-League? Of course, if the Rio Grande Valley Vipers (the basketball operations of which are now controlled by the Rockets) wanted to sign Conroy and Temple to their roster, then that would be a good idea. Of course, Conroy or Temple would be free to sign with any NBA team that wants to sign them to a 10-day or full season contract. If THAT is what you meant, then I apologize and retract my statement above.
That's good. I thought that he carried too much weight to move around effectively on defense. Hopefully, the weight loss will allow him to rotate better.
I actually think that this is what Morey wants to do with a whole bunch of players. Since the Rockets run the operations of the Vipers, I'm sure he wants to get them to sign up a bunch of 'fringe talent' as their roster (guys like Ramos?) - then they can play in the "system", and be right on hand to scout. If they pan out, the Rockets can (hopefully) be the 'early bird' to get the worm in terms of signing them.
Forgive me for my ignorance, but did we ever sign Ramos? I thought it was simply a non-guarenteed camp invite.
