Put Rivers and Gordon on Mitchell, and hope Rivers can make his layups and hit 3s. Defensively we should be able to contain Mitchell with Rivers who is a vast improvement defensively on guards than last year. Capela needs to own Gobert like last year both defensively and offensively. Don’t leave Ingles open for 3s and grab defensive rebounds against Gobert and Favors. I don’t know the others that well but be prepared for a no name to go off and make quick adjustments within the game to contain threats.
Ok...so I can see where Rivers could water down Mitchell's efficiency if it's straight up one-on-one. But they're running pick-and-roll now. With Favors mostly. Are we going to switch that or fight over and drop Capela?
This is my pet peeve about the rockets defence..... They will get beaten on dribble penetration and then everyone crowds the paint, leaving the corner 3 wide open.... Why do we leave the corner 3s open????? The other one is Capela dancing with a guard on the perimeter, when he should be in the paint where he belongs. Besides that, I'm good with our D
Mitchell seems to be shooting better now than before on the 3 ball. Depends if he is making them, go over the screen if not contain his drive. I am against switching on Favors or Gobert unless the team makes effort on the rebound by boxing out or if Mitchell is shooting well. It all depends on if Mitchell is hitting his 3 pt shot, but I am more concerned about his driving ability either open court or pick in roll or cuts. It also depends on Capela, who was a beast last year against Timberwolves and Utah. I have faith in him this year also, that man has heart and good work ethic.
So, Gobert/Favors lineup. So you're saying don't switch, make Mitchell prove he's gonna hit the 3, and until he does, then drop who??? Mitchell/Favors......who is on Favors??
Post-series discussion starts here Jazz suck, we win series Post-series discussion ends here Rockets vs Worriers discussion starts here
If Mitchell and their team is hitting 3s or killing us on cuts, then you switch everything. Whoever is on Favors will need to hard box out and team rebound. Tucker or Harden on Favors with the other getting Ingles. Can try Faried on Favors but favor Nene more, but no switching on Mitchell then. Throw Rivers, Gordon, Paul, Tucker, Shumpert, and the kitchen sink on Mitchell.
Box out Favors and the Rockets win. Favors is the only bad match up for the Rockets. Dante Exum was the only guy who could guard Harden and he is out with injury.
Utah played a super soft schedule post-ASB and did just, “good”. The Rockets played at brutal one and did amazingly on both ends. This really isn’t close.
the easiest way to curtail all the easy baskets for their bigs is by putting rubio in the popcorn machine again and again and again, basically force snyder to keep him on the bench
We can play a 2-big lineup to help matchup against Gobert/Favors if their offensive rebounding becomes a major problem. Or we force them to take out one of them with our shooting.
Boxing out means using body and arms out instead of just standing there without contact. You’ll have to see the games to know or read my previous post on whoever switches and the coaches will need to preach boxing out throughout the playoffs not just against the Jazz. Here’s hoping they listen because Rockets have not been a good defensive rebounding team. They’ll need to learn when they play the Warriors next round, because that team can’t be beat easily without switching and the Jazz series will be a big learning curve for relatively new group of players.
Why is the focus how are we going to defend them(an average offense) instead of how are we going to attack them? What’s your take? How do you think we SHOULD defend them? How do you think we WILL defend them? And lastly what's your prediction as to what will happen?
