The guys you mentioned are league leaders/main men. Ben, although 6'9", and Barkey only 6'4", both had large hands, wide bodies, long arms and not only were good rebounders, but were the best in the leage at what they did (All-Stars). Same with AI. KT did not lead the league in anything. He wasn't dominate like those other guys were. At first I thought you were going to bring up on of my favorite players: Malik Rose He's one of the best inside rebounders I've ever seen at 6'7". Like Barkley he's able to sky for rebounds and get putbacks over guys that are 7'0". But, again. Take a look at Roes'es arm lenght and HAND SIZE! MITTS! By the way, I don't dislike KT. I loved his hustle. But his style didn't fit out team. We needed a dominate player at the 3 or 4. Not, a "do it all player," but a "do a few things very good" player. Like Posey and Rice. Rice dominates at ONE thing: shooting 3s. Posey can dominate at running the floor or defense/steals. Ben Wallace is sooooo GOOD at what he does best (rebounding and blocking shots) that he's worth giving up a player that is fair/good at everything. KT is not in the same league as BW. Posey is a lot better at slashing/defense and running the floor versus what KT's decent play could give us.
So you're saying that Larry Brown and the Sixers gave us a choice of which of the 3 to send? If not, are you saying someone wanted to take on Mo Tay's contract and give us something remotely equal in return? Or are you saying that Eddie Griffin is a flop and only the Rockets know this?
Griff is NOT a flop. If Griff is a flop, then so was Jermaine O'Neal. Please take a look at JO's first 4 years. http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/players/3120/career Kwame Brown is NOT a flop either. http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/players/3511/career Just wait...these are kids.
Kt Sucks... KT didnot fit on this team he will never be more than a role player in the league and he is not much of a team player... in the end he was more concerned about his stats than the teams results and getting rid of him was the best move of the season.. Mo is a more cnsistent scoring threat and team player
-Mo and Griffin are better outside shooters. -Mo was too good to not play, but impossible to trade, and the coaching staff believed in Griffin. So KT was the odd man out. -We needed a real 3 badly.
Why is this even being mentioned now? Posey was a good trade. although your stating why did we trade KT I hope your not thinking this is why we did not make the playoffs....... Posey is strong defense and to me he is a gunner. We should call Posey, James the Radar man Posey because everywhere that ball is Posey is dead on trying to steal it and take it to the hole!
He was part of the old regime of iso ball. Once a coach was honest with him and told him just to play hard and be a garbage man, he played like he did pre iso era, but this coaching staff has a bad habit of overblowing players. KT is like a malik rose, gary trent and corliss wiliamson. They are not starter quality, but good hard working players. Can a team win a ring with players like this starting? Probably not, but trading him was best for him and probably the team. Having 3 players trying to share 1 position really is a recipe for grumbling and unhappiness. If not for salaries, taylor would have been traded first with Griffin starting andKT backing him up, but once again, we paid too much for 13pts 5 rebs.
I did not like moving KT, I would have preferred to move Taylor but Taylor was coming off that major injury and drug incident and hadn't been particularly impressive at the time of the trade. KT stands accused of "breaking" the "offense" but dribbling away trying play ISO. If that is so, he wasn't the only guilty one - you can add Francis, Mobley & Taylor to that list as well. That's why this team was so terrible to watch. It's funny how everyone forgets that Taylor does not pass the ball but prefers to play ISO ball. That's why he's such a liability when Yao is on the floor. Once Yao or anyone else passes him the ball, he never gives it up. His improved scoring compensated for this somewhat but his poor rebounding and passing just killed us. I believe that KT is a player in the Malik Rose, Corliss Williamson mold. He can be a very good player in the proper system with the proper coaching. That's why he looks so much better in Philly playing for Larry Brown. Just look at how effective Malik Rose is playing under Popovich in SA. KT simply wasn't getting the same quality level of coaching here but then, sad to say, nobody is.
We traded KT because Rox management is just as foolish as the clowns who post here, and wanted KT gone.
I think starting EG was a mistake becuase it raised so many expectations on him. How many 19 year PF's do you remember having great seasons? EG is still a good rebounder and a good shot blocker. KT was always trying to prove something with the Rockets, he never really welcomed any of the guys that came after him as though they were taking his job away. He never passed to Yao or Griff. Hell, he never passed to anyone. And as much as DaDakota complains about Francis holding the ball and taking a long time to make his move, that was definately KT. He would take seven or jab steps before he made any kind of move.
I agree. KT has already been a factor in the league while EG is still smoking. The difference for us in this year is - a play spot. Well, if we can sign Posey for a reasonable price and he continues to develop like he did at the end of the season, the difference will be obvious in future.
But if we can't or won't poney up to resign Posey who seems to want to be here, what was the likelihood for us that we could resign KT when he already is pissed because we give more PT to a 2nd year guy who has been nothing but inconsistent in every phase of the game. As much as trading KT hurt our 4 position, getting Posey helped our 3 position even more. Lets compare their stats with the Rockets.. Plr MPG FG 3% Ft ST Bl TO ReB AS PPG PPS Kt 29.3 43 00 73 0.8 .3 2.0 6.9 2.0 9.8 1.10 JP 28.4 44 33 83 1.3 .2 1.3 4.8 1.3 9.3 1.19 Honestly the stats are as close to a wash as you could imagine--and given our 3 spot has less depth and quality than the 4 spot and we have a better chance to sign Posey than we would with KT--this was a good trade. Now could we have had a better trade if we got rid of Griffin for a player like Rashard or maybe Lamar Odom and kept KT--it look more and more like that everyday, but that doesn't mean the Posey-KT trade wasn't a good one once we decided we were going to keep Griffin.
KT is in his 3rd year in the league. Griffin is in his 2nd. And the boy just turned 21. The Rockets spent 3 1st rounders and "proclaimed him the best in the draft". The Rockets CAN NOT trade the guy, not after 1 1/2 season (time of the KT-Posey trade). Even if the Rockets made a mistake and Eddie is not ALL THAT, they still need to give him some time to hang himself. You all know the MoTalyor situation and that it was impossible to trade him at the time. It's a little better now but still tough. And now KT is now in the playoff, good for him. He should be glad the Rockets traded him to the 76s. He should be thankful! As for playing less ISO and more like a team, IS HE?? I don't get to see KT so I wouldn't know. It's a trade that didn't help Rockets get into the playoffs. So, Steve not becoming the man didn't help either. In fact, the inconsistency of the team killed all chances of making the playoffs. I don't know if a coaching chance could do something about that. I don't even know if trades will do it. I'm glad I'm not the GM or coach of this team. On the bright side, Ming is GOING TO GET BETTER! Steve will learn to play with a real center. Don't know about the rest of the guys since that are all tradeable IMO. BTW no way you trade Steve or Ming. That would not be a good move unless the trade involves a Duncan or KG or Shaq or Kobe and that won't happen.
Wrong. We should have traded the guy IF we thought that he didn't fit REGARDLESS how many draft picks we used on him. But I bet your thought was EXACTLY what Rockets managment team thought at that time. And that's why Jerry West is a way better GM than Dawson/Rudy. After only 1/2 season, West was convinced that Gooden was neither a franchise player to build the Memphis team around nor a role player fitting in with Gasol (Memphis's identified franchise player), so he traded him immediately because Gooden's trade stock was going to go nowhere but down over the next couple of years (when you get older, people would think your "potential" get less and less, FACT). When a player's stock is going nowhere but down, trade him now, not later. Same goes for Griffin. Either the Rockets are convinced that he's going to explose as a franchise player for the next couple of seasons (unlikely to happen IMO, I simply don't think he has the neccessary tools) or we SHOULD have traded him. His value is going nowhere but down as he gets older and his preceived "potential" gets less and less.
Yes, but he does other things that benifit the team. Like rebounding and blocking shots. It's not all about points. If there's one thing I don't like about Griffs game is that he shoots too many 3-pointers! That angers me! It's almost like he's saying, "I'm lazy, so I'll just shoot a three instead of getting inside and banging." I mean, it's sure it a lot easier to just shoot a three than it is to setup in the post. So, I see that laziness. But I'm not going to call him a flop until he reaches Francie's age.
