I'm surprised I haven't seen anyone mention Cyclone Anaya's yet. I've always enjoyed the food and atmosphere there. As far as Midtown goes, it is so much better than El Patio it isn't even funny. They have a very good combo platter there (ie. Crispy taco, enchilada, tostada, etc. ) Surprisingly, they have one of the best seared tuna salads I've ever had topped with a creamy cilantro sauce.
cyclone's is pretty solid and not too expensive... i always get the juanita's superior for something like $13. and cafe adobe is just a notch above taco bell.
I have to strongly disagree with that statement. Have you been to El Tiempo? It makes Guadalajara look like Taco Cabana. They aren't even in the same class. Never mind, I just read your reply. I agree, it is a little expensive if you compare it to someplace like Guadalajara, but the quality of food is far superior and worth it IMO.
I have been to el tiempo, overrated and over priced` edit: in my opinion edit: again, I think the seafood enchilada at Guadalajara is the best value in a meal into. shrimp, crawfish, and lump crab meat for $14. and quality seafood
It is certainly expensive for a TexMex joint (but so is Guadalajara). The dinners that I have had at El Tiempo have been very good but perhaps a little pricey.
lol, You're the first Red rep I've seen so far on the site. You guys are really hyping the Fajitas, going to have to try them. I used to always eat at Escalantes cause it's right next to our house in memorial plaza, and Gringos by our Sugar land house.
Pappasito's sucks. It is way too salty and quality varies by location. Try something more local where you get to know exactly what to expect.
At at Pappasitos for lunch. The Plato Chapla - Beef Enchilda, Crispy Beef Taco and Pork Tamale. ROCKED!!!
no doubt. i laugh at anyone who says that > $10 a plate for a tex-mex is reasonable. it may be reasonable compared to other expensive tex-mex places, but it ain't reasonable overall. my girl and i went to la hacienda last monday and after tip for both of us it was $15. i cringe when i have to pay that at guadalajara or pappasitos for just one entree.
Seem like ALL of the restaurants mentioned in this post aren't really 100% authentic Mexican or tex-mex food. If you want real mexican food let me know and i'll try hooking you up with an appointment with my mom. Now that's real Mexican flavor food. All of this places mentioned lack the Mexican flavor need to be considered "Mexican" or "Tex-Mex". Since it's a fast food restaurant that's pretty much why almost all of this places recook or reheat the same food over and over again and serve it to the public. Something close to any of your burger places in your neighborhood. In other words just stay home and cook. Trust me that's sexy in a chick's eye.
yeah, but there is a different quality to the food. never been to la hacienda, I'll have to try, but you can just take that further and apply it to Taco Cabana or the taquerias. do you think la hacienda's food is of the same quality?
honestly, with regards to guadalajara and pappasitos (not counting the fajitas), yes. i feel the same with places like los cucos and other smaller/cheaper tex-mex places like la finca out in katy.
gonna have to agree w fatty on this one and say that you're either totally confused or just sadly mistaken
I've been to la hacienda and I don't think the food is of the same quality as the more expensive places. It reminds me more of a Taqueria. Don't get me wrong, it's good for cheap food but I'd rather spend a little extra for a meal that I'll enjoy more.
