never was one of my favorites but i do remember enjoying their chicken chile rellenos. they're not very authentic but they are damn tasty.
I don't really like Chuy's food much but I end up there at least once a month for some reason. I think it has to do with it's Austin vibe. I just feel relaxed and comfortable there for some reason. I've never been to the ones in Houston, so I don't know if its the same.
first lost and now this. maybe there was another reason i stayed away from practice yesterday (chuy's is in the suburbs too).
what's up with all the "tell me about" spinoffs? Only a matter of time, before someone starts " tell me about sex, is it good?" I love the desserts at pappasitos more than the actual food, that fried ice cream ball with cocunut is something else. =
You mean Los Cucos? To be honest, I've never had a bad dish there, although their fajitas are only slightly above average and don't compare to Pappasitos beef. You can’t go wrong with any of the burritos (I prefer the Burrito Grande), quesadillas, enchiladas, soft tacos, etc. The tortillas are the best I’ve ever had, so any dish that has them in some form is going to be good. And I'm warning you....bring an IV for that green sauce. And remember….$1.50 margaritas and $0.99 drafts on Mondays and Tuesdays. But be sure to get the regular sized ritas because the grande ones are still at full price.
Although in Dallas, Plano finally got a Los Cucos, and it closes at freaking 9 o'clock!! WTF is that about?!?! Anyway, we went there twice, once was very good, the second time, not so, but it was takeout, so its always a crap shoot with takeout from a sit-in restaurant. Pappasitos is just not that good to me.
If it was a business trip then yes, I would take them to Pappasito's. If it is friend/family/significant other these would be my choices: Chuy's Gringo's ..... ..... Everyone else. Seriously, those two are at the top of my list. Chuy's is a little pricey (not as bad as Pappasito's though), but they're creamy jalapeno sauce is to die for, and the atmosphere is great. Where else can you go and not see the ceiling because it is completely covered in hub caps?! Gringo's is just great all around. I love pretty much all of their food, I love their sauce, and they have decent prices. The main thing I use to rank these restaurants is the sauce since I eat a ton of it and put it on pretty much everything. Some honorable mentions would be.... Guadalajara (a lot like Pappasito's, but I like their sauce more) Ninfa's (they have good happy hour specials and good sauce as well) Casa Ole (ok, I VERY rarely go there, but I can say I love their sauce) I've never been to Los Cuco's, but it's looking like I'm going to have to try it soon. If it were up to me though, I'd take her to Chuy's. Great all around, and not as pricey as Pappasito's. Once you try the creamy jalapeno sauce, you'll be begging for more. One last thing. My dad and step mom have been going to Pappasito's for years and I have never seen them order anything other than the "Del Mar" platter. It is a large portion so they split it. I think it comes with a little bit of everything, including fajitas. Pugs
Go to Chuy's in River Oaks. Always go the original. Like Ninfa's on Navigation or Lupe Tortillia's in Katy.
If you're talking about Chuy's, get the Elvis Combo (I think it's the #1 or the #2). The Chuychanga is also good. If they don't bring it to you, be sure to ask for the creamy jalapeno. That's the one thing that annoys me, sometimes they bring it to you voluntarily, and sometimes you have to ask for it. If you're talking about Los Cucos, then you'd be better off listening to ima_drummer2k. Pugs
Pappasito is definitely the place to take outsiders too. Remember the OP said Tex-Mex (Not Real Mexican) so Pappasito is top notch in that regards. I always base everything on fajitas and I love the way they make them. I've eaten in a lot of Tex-Mex/Taqueria joints and Pappasito's just has top quality fajita meats. The meat actually is so tender and juicy that you just want more. Now I regular eat at Taqueria Arandas / Loc Cucos / La Hacienda (Memorial) / etc.. and in no way does the fajita meat match Pappasito's.
In a class of its own. I can't compare it to Lupe's or Pappasito's or any of the others. It's old-school Tex Mex for sure. And cheap. I don't get fajitas there because they're no where near as good....but if you live on the west side, La Ha is an institution. I go cheese enchiladas there. And my family of 4 can eat there for under $30.
Don't like anything at Pappasito's except the fajitas. Worst salsa in the city. Personally if it's a social thing I prefer Cafe Adobe. Good fajitas, great tortillas, good salsa and and good drinks. Way overpriced though. For cheap strong drinks and crappy fajitas go to Tia Maria's. Not a big fan of Chuy's. I don't get the attraction personally.
