Nope they had garlic butter when I worked there, and still when I was there last week. It is a slight hint of Garlic..... DD
My dad swears by Margarita's in Conroe. My sister swears by Los Cuco's. I'll probably end up at Papasito's and one of the two above, as Tex-Mex is my absolute favorite, and I haven't been home to visit in about 4 years...
Papasito's isn't a place I would say is the best but it is consistently good (at least at N I-25 location). Some of the better chips as salsa around as well. I would think it would be a solid choice to take someone from out of town. Of the large restaurants I prefer Chuy's.
We may not agree about CP3 but we most certainly agree about this. I don't think the chicken fajitas are anything special. The beef fajitas rule. The chips and salsa are also great. I usually take extra salsa home with me.
Those are winners, really good. My favorite is Lopez, but they are on the SW side of town. I need to make it over to Chuy's, they always get recommended in these threads. I don't know how you can really go wrong with Pappasitos, they're a staple.
not my favorite, but it's good. lupe tortilla's fajitas (at least at the original location near i-10 and highway 6) are the best fajitas i've ever had, and there's not a close second.
I agree with those saying beef. They are good. The chipotle shrimp on the lunch menu is very good. You can get it other times but you have to ask for it.
Like some others have said, their BEEF fajitas are unmatched, IMO. As close to perfection as you can get. Their chicken fajitas are nothing special, their tortillas taste like rubber, their salsa is average and I've had much better margaritas. They are also very over-priced and their 'atmosphere' is not tex mex at all. Kind of hard to get into the spirit of a good tex mex place when your waiter is some gringo fratboy from the local college. But their BEEF fajitas are from heaven. It's funny, I've tried just about every place in Houston mentioned in this thread and then some. But I always end up going back to Los Cucos. They have the best tortillas, the best margaritas (1.50 on Mondays and Tuesdays), the best green sauce (it's like crack) and IMO even the best 'tex mex' atmosphere in Houston. BTW, they are also much more reasonabley priced than most of these other places and the service is always second to none. If it were socially acceptable to do so, I would eat there 7 times a week. Los Cucos PEW. (para el win)
If I was taking someone new out for Tex-Mex I would go in this order: Lupe Tortilla Chuy's El Tiempo Ninfa's on Navigation Pappasito's
Either draped in velvet, or draped in their green sauce. Either is fine with me. Unless I have to get a calzone for my boss.
I don't think it all that, however as everyone said their beef fajitas rock and with the recession they are having some great specials. They have a daily beef fajita, about a full one person order and a half pound lobster tail for $18.95
