The comment was about "listening" to corporate media, which I expanded in my mind to include television. Print media is different AFAIC because it is far easier to find several points of view and identify bias in the written word. I will actively refuse to watch a 24-hour news station, talk radio about anything but sports, and generally avoid watching even the daily news. I prefer to read my news so that I can decide for myself who is talking straight and who is blowing smoke out of their a$$es.
Even print media are corporate owned, and they have just as many biases. Look at the New York Times. Once upon a time their reputation was impeccable, but now no reasonable person can believe anything they write. I agree with you that journalism has been ruined by the concept of advocacy journalism. Unfortunately, there is no way to return to the simpler time when the story goal of each journalist was to be accurate, fair and complete.
Again, with print media, it is easier to read between the lines, find other stories about the same issue, and otherwise ferret out the biases in the stories. I prefer to read several stories about the same subject (as happens so often in this forum) and make up my own mind about the issue.
You couldn't be more wrong about the NYTimes. The times has made mistakes. They were news because they were the rarity rather than the rule. The same is not the case for Fox.
Seems appropriate for this thread: <table style='font:11px arial; color:#333; background-color:#f5f5f5' cellpadding='0' cellspacing='0' width='360' height='353'><tbody><tr style='background-color:#e5e5e5' valign='middle'><td style='padding:2px 1px 0px 5px;'><a target='_blank' style='color:#333; text-decoration:none; font-weight:bold;' href='http://www.thedailyshow.com'>The Daily Show With Jon Stewart</a></td><td style='padding:2px 5px 0px 5px; text-align:right; font-weight:bold;'>Mon - Thurs 11p / 10c</td></tr><tr style='height:14px;' valign='middle'><td style='padding:2px 1px 0px 5px;' colspan='2'<a target='_blank' style='color:#333; text-decoration:none; font-weight:bold;' href='http://www.thedailyshow.com/watch/thu-october-29-2009/for-fox-sake-'>For Fox Sake!<a></td></tr><tr style='height:14px; background-color:#353535' valign='middle'><td colspan='2' style='padding:2px 5px 0px 5px; width:360px; overflow:hidden; text-align:right'><a target='_blank' style='color:#96deff; text-decoration:none; font-weight:bold;' href='http://www.thedailyshow.com/'>www.thedailyshow.com</a></td></tr><tr valign='middle'><td style='padding:0px;' colspan='2'><embed style='display:block' src='http://media.mtvnservices.com/mgid:cms:item:comedycentral.com:253738' width='360' height='301' type='application/x-shockwave-flash' wmode='window' allowFullscreen='true' flashvars='autoPlay=false' allowscriptaccess='always' allownetworking='all' bgcolor='#000000'></embed></td></tr><tr style='height:18px;' valign='middle'><td style='padding:0px;' colspan='2'><table style='margin:0px; text-align:center' cellpadding='0' cellspacing='0' width='100%' height='100%'><tr valign='middle'><td style='padding:3px; width:33%;'><a target='_blank' style='font:10px arial; color:#333; text-decoration:none;' href='http://www.thedailyshow.com/full-episodes'>Daily Show<br/> Full Episodes</a></td><td style='padding:3px; width:33%;'><a target='_blank' style='font:10px arial; color:#333; text-decoration:none;' href='http://www.indecisionforever.com'>Political Humor</a></td><td style='padding:3px; width:33%;'><a target='_blank' style='font:10px arial; color:#333; text-decoration:none;' href='http://www.thedailyshow.com/videos/tag/health'>Health Care Crisis</a></td></tr></table></td></tr></tbody></table>
I doubt that you're an idiot, but you never know, it's not hard to figure out that Fox is a propaganda network if you're paying attention.
