This sorta reminds me of that one episode on King Of The Hill, the one when Bobby kick his dad in the groin, and later refused to give up his gameboy when he was on his punishment. Sickening to see real people actually valuing a video game over their parents. btw, I sorta laughed at the fact that he TOOK the game with him as he fled from the scene of crime. "We can be together now baby, I'm here for you". What a nerd.
The sad reality is that American prisons are FULL of people that shouldn't be in prison, but rather in a mental institution. This kid getting sent to jail for a long time wouldn't be a new or shocking conclusion, imo. At the same time though, how much help could you offer a kid who shoots his parents over a god damn video game? The act is clearly insane, yet at the same time the only thing that would indicate any of this behavior according to the article posted was that he was "homebound for a year". The kid knew what he was doing. He's 16 years old, and was obviously an active and seemingly "normal" kid. Maybe it's that he was sheltered or something silly like that. And just to add, it didn't seem as the father "forgave" the kid as the article implies. He just says "you're my son, my boy." All that means to me is that he can't hate the kid because he is blood. Absence of loathing and hate after a catastrophe like that is not equal to forgiveness imo.
From what I read on CNN, the defense said he wasn't just homebound for a year, but he was also at a high risk of paralysis if he suffered even a minor injury. I can see how that could make someone a little crazy, though it doesn't seem like enough to explain all this.
Well at least this one's easy to figure out: guns and video games...duh! I could not imagine the emotions the father has experienced since that incident. His own son killed his wife...over a video game. Obviously they must have had other issues, but that's what it boils down to. Even worse, he tried to blame the murder on the dad. Insane... ...and yet they want him to come home. I would be all for him going home if he didn't seem like such a psycho. Somebody with his personality is a risk to other figures of authority such as teachers, police, etc...If he can't take a "no" without going crazy, then he needs to be put in jail or a psych ward.
A kid I knew growing up killed his mom and step dad because they took away his comic books. I hadn't talked to him for about three years before it happened. I felt kind of bad because we sort of picked on him a few time even though he was older than us.
If I'm taking something away from my hormonal teenage son that will make him pissed, I won't hide it next to my gun...
Swoly, i just feel like he made a STUPIDLY BAD decision that he will regret for the rest of his life. All signs point to a spur of the moment kind of a deal. I'm sorry if i came across trying to justify his actions with him being 16, that wasn't my aim. But you guys are right, jail will do nothing to solve this issue. Although I still wouldn't consider him psychotic; only if he had no remorse for what he did or truly seemed to not get what happened. I guess we'll just see what happens with this case
