No kidding. I used to say to a meat-eating, non-smoking, barbeque-loving friend of mine that, as a vegan, I could assure him that his burning flesh bothered me as much as my burning plant bothered him. And I used to counter his arguments about the ill effects of second hand smoke on his health with the ill effects the raising of cattle has on the environment. Let's ban em both. That's what I say.

    This is my issue
This Ban is the WEENIE BAN
Basically .. it gives owners an OUT
Instead of them MANNING UP AND SAY .. Yo! this is a no smoking bar
[and risking some potential customer base]
    it allows them to say . . MAN .. I wish I could . . but Its the Law. . .

With the ban not being enforced
What is the point of the legislation beyond giving business a crutch to be a Weenie

no allowing people to smoke? BARS COULD HAVE DONE THIS WITHOUT THE ORDINANCE

So . . what exactly does the ban do . . . . It allows bars to puss out
    without being seen as a puss . . .

    Vote with your Wallet
only patronize bars that don't allow smoking
why make NO BARS ALLOW SMOKING?

Yea. . . it gives YOU more choices. . but it limits another person's choices

    FOR THE RECORD
    I don't smoke. . . .

    But
    smokers are easy targets
but the AIR QUALITY IN HOUSTON IS CRAP
Why not the BIG FIGHT TO make these d*mn F*ctories
get their Air Quality Reg up to snuff ?

What? no guts to go after the REAL SECOND HAND SMOKE folx?

    Rocket River
this is not addressed to you in particular ..
    but second smoke is dangers
but so is smoke from Cars / Factories/ etc
Why not put ordinances enforce more regs of these?

I have mixed feelings on all of this.

    On the one hand,

I really enjoy going out to a bar every once in a while, especially if there is live music. But I hate cigarette smoke. To me, nothing can ruin a meal quicker than the smell of cigarette smoke, and I hate having my clothes smell that way, and I hate how my eyes feel that night and the next day. It completely ruins the experience for me........to the point that I simply don't go out anymore. Thinking that I could go out again and enjoy a few places without cigarette smoke makes me very happy.

    On the other hand,

I hate legislating smoker's behavior to their benefit. It feels like were tampering with natural selection which has to be a bad thing for future generations.

i'm with you entirely. my selfish side wins out. my wife has awful allergies and can't be around cigarette smoke for very long. i'm much more concerned about her being able to join me out for a drink than i am about someone else's right to smoke at the same establishment. selfish...but true.

I think it is a great idea. There is nothing worse than having to dry clean any nice clothes that you wore because they smell like smoke.

    Butthead's - Seabrook, TX

Avoid this place! Weird people, cluttered, junky

We did not enjoy our visit and nearly fell off the bar stools that are falling apart. There was no air conditioning and the people we tried to talk to were cold and unfriendly. It looks like the songs on the juke box haven't been changed for years and the atmosphere was oppressive to say the least. The pool players would not let anyone else have a turn and we were disappointed. We will not go back to this place ever!

When I go to a greasy spoon I usually end up smelling like grease. If I go to a crowded bar its not unusual for someone to accidently spill some of theirs or my drink on me. If I go to a bar with a band or a loud sound system my ears are ringing. So its not unusual for my clothes to smell or my hearing to be compromised, or my arteries more clogged from going out already. Under the reasoning that smoking is affecting my health then greasy food, crowds and loud music should also have blanket bans as those have negative affects on my health too.

I thought they passed this law mostly for the employees rather than the patrons.
