See Jamarcus Russel. See Jay Cutler. It's hard to tell what qb's are going to be studs in the NFL. I have always been blah on SEC qb's for many reasons. Saying that, I think Winston will be very very good in the NFL. Bridgewater reminds me of Aaron Rogers in so many ways. The accuracy, the ability to run but would rather slide in the pocket. The ability to use his eyes to slide defensive coverage and open up windows. Either way. You do not pass up QB prospects like this. The best qb's in the league are Brady,Manning,Brees,Rogers Where are there teams every year? Best defensive player in the league? JJ watt/Quinn Where are there teams? Take a qb. It's key to consistent success.
He definitely puts up good numbers...but the ranks of these defenses doesnt tell the whole story. The majority of these teams dont play any offenses that are worth anything. The Texans have the 3rd ranked defense in the NFL...but we all know that any top 10 offense will put up 30+ points on them.
Just for fun... Winston's opponents defensive ranks Pitt - 42nd Nevada - 117th Bethune Cookman - Not FBS Maryland - 32nd Clemson - 23rd NCSU - 61st Miami - 76th Wake Forest - 33rd Syracuse - 39th Idaho - 120th Florida - 10th Duke - 71st Average defensive rank: 62nd
agreed that FSU has played a weak defensive schedule as well that's why I was hoping to see how they would do vs. Bama. Now vs. Auburn I think they'll pwn
I don't think it's weak, I just don't think it's strong. It's almost exactly at the "average" mark. And probably very similar to Bridgewater's resume in terms of SOS. Winston is a freshman, so what he's done is nuts even if it isn't against top flight defenses.
This. Bridgewater looked much better against that 3rd ranked Florida D than Winston did. Winston is a hyped up SEC qb as was Manziel who holds on to the ball way to long to be considered a great qb prospect.
Winston isn't hyped at all, and what he's done as a freshman has been extraordinary. And if you're a supporter of Bridgewater, you can't use Winston's SOS as evidence that he's overhyped, as Bridgewater's SOS is average as well. The point is that both QB's have great skill-sets, and their non top-flight SOS's shouldn't sway anyone.
Being from UoH I've been proud to see Case do his thing with the Texans, but it doesn't really look like he's improving...it's like he came out slinging the ball around at first, then he's become afraid and unable to make decisions quickly and of course he's bad at picking up the blitz. That being said, Bridgewater doesn't look like the guy either...at least looking at the highlights OMR provided. The dude makes bad throws underpressure and is also very poor at picking up a college blitz, I can't imagine how much more difficult it'll be for him in the NFL. He's a bit more mobile than Case and probably has a bit better of an arm (but it's tough to tell), but overall I'm really not that convinced that he'll be a good pro. If we get him I hope I'm wrong
The fact you said UL has little talent tells me you don't know anything about their team. Please do research and formulate an opinion.
That's funny coming from the guy who said this. There's not many guys on the national radar on U of L's team outside of Bridgewater. Certainly not many on the draft radar. Meanwhile, FSU has guys on the Groza, Thorpe, and Mackey award finalist list.
There are a lot of Hall of Fame QB's that didn't play ranked teams every week when they were in college. That has nothing to do with whether a guy can play or not.
I do know little about that team as they are not nationally televised like all the sec schools. It's easy to see that Bridgewater has talent. Louisville was 7-6 before he arrived. They were 11-1 this year. That lone loss had everything to do with the defense. I believe Teddy threw for over 340 with 2 Td's as no picks as well.
Hard to tell if the texans are going QB. They have no money to sign one. But say they are not rebuilding. So you take Teddy's upside and 1st overall picks are not as expensive as they used to be. Might as well. Doubt that Case is the answer.
At least wait for the combine and bowl games before you start with the polarizing opinions right? The only true wisdom consists in knowing that you know nothing. Dust. Wind. Dude.
There are significantly more who've put up gaudy numbers and been unable to make an NFL roster. Bridgewater is not one of those guys, but too many people want to discount level of competition as if it were meaningless. It's far from that.
