100% Schaub is waived...there is no doubt about that and it's really the only route we can take. And we probably wont cut Schaub until after the draft.
Bridgewater is a better prospect than Winston. Better pocket presense and accuracy. I think what hurts Teddy is his personality. He doesn't have that prototypical confidence most qb's have.
Not verbally, no. But he lays it all on the line every single game in a way that just exudes confidence. Playing with a hurt ankle and a broken wrist against Rutgers to get his team into a BCS was pretty awesome.
Or indicative that he'll become an oft-injured shell of a player like RGIII did, once he gets into the NFL
No doubt. The guy is a gamer. He just doesn't come off like the other qb's and I think many people over look him because of that. He has Andre Johnsonitis.
Not only is Teddy not THAT special, but he's not THAT more special than any late first or second round QB (Boyd anyone?). He has played against the most pathetic defenses year after year, he should have video game numbers, instead they're above average. And his overrated team has lost to the likes of UCONN and Syracuse. He's not worth the top pick, at least not to the Texans. Get Clowney or trade down.
I disagree. He rarely puts himself in danger as often as RGIII does. Bridgewater is very cautious when scrambling, and he almost slides and gets out of bounds before getting hit. He's never once missed a game due to injury, I believe, while RGIII suffered a Torn ACL at Baylor, setting up what was to come.
Keep in mind, UL has played (I believe) 2 or 3 ranked teams in Teddys ENTIRE TENURE at UL. The DLs he plays are soft, the CBs he's thrown against are nothing to write home about, the LBs he plays are sub par. Put Winston or Manziel on Rutgers and let him play against Southern Miss, Ohio, Eastern Kentucky, and see how he performs. Guy is injury prone and won't last long.
Here's what happens when you have a decent team but no answer at QB, you get the Cleveland Browns. Albeit this is an extreme example. Now, how many teams that have star QBs end up like the Browns? Zero. Go with the QB. It is worth the risk always.
Bridgewater's team is just as bad as the teams he plays. His offensive line is turnstile, so despite playing against "sub par" d-lines, he is almost always under constant pressure. Yet he still displays pocket awareness beyond his years. Plus, using the logic behind your argument, Bridgewater would fold when playing against top defenses. Yet when he was matched up against #3 Florida that possessed by far on the best defenses in all of college football, he easily dismantled them. Bridgewater can ball, and he possesses all the necessary skills to be extremely successful in the NFL. This is what scouts look for when they examine quarterbacks, not their level of competition.
I disagree completely. Bridewater is just average across the board which means his upside is around the Flacco/Big Ben/Eli range. I think Winston will be the best QB prospect behind Luck and RGIII to have come out in a long while, and could make an argument for him above RGIII because he plays a better (and safer) style than RGIII.
Browns also don't have a run game, and relaly only Josh Gordon and Jordan Cameron in the passing game. Not much to work with there even if they had a QB that could hit a target once in a while.
he has played an incredibly weak schedule wait until Ndamukong Suh or Marcel Darius snap his weak little frame
Dude come on, Winston is going to be on the same level as Andrew Luck as far as "prospect" goes...Teddy isnt at that level. Not only has Winston outperformed Bridgewater as a freshman playing much better competition, but he also has more prototypical size and arm strength. I understand Bridgewater is a very good prospect and has the potential to be a rock star in the pros...but the love fest for him is way overplayed. He's not even a once every 5 year type of prospect.
Bridgewater played his best game against Florida, coincidentally the best team he played in football. He is not a dink and duck qb and yet he hits at 71% clip while showing above average arm strength. Bridgewater has GREAT pocket presense and to top it all off, he uses his eyes as a weapon. Kid is pro ready.
That may all be true...but Winston is a HUGE prospect...he's at least as athletic as Bridgewater, and probably more so. He's also an inch taller and 30 pounds heavier...with a stronger arm. Winston is a complete stud in many facets of the game.
Winston's awesome and is most likely going to be a higher ranked prospect than Bridgewater coming out of school. But Bridgewater's still a stud, and he's been ranked as the #1 eligible QB the past two years. While he may or may not become the franchise QB that the Texans need, he's still definitely worth the risk.
