I understand your point about Senator Kennedy, Fatty. He was an iconic figure. I disagreed with him on almost everything. I never would have voted for him. He was, however, a man that was held in high regard by a lot of people. His life ended last night. To come into a thread about his death and make statements like that...does it not seem like a natural result that your comments would serve to be incendiary? The bottom line...love or hate his politics and some of the things he did earlier in life...he served our nation for 43 years in the Senate. Certainly you can think of one or two things out of 43 years that he did that were good things.
Dude, I know I've had a more open mind than you have in regards to others opinions. And if you don't see the pile-on everytime an incendiary viewpoint is shared by a conservative instead of a liberal, you're not paying attention.
RIP teddy thanks for voting NO on going to war with Iraq...if only anyone else had the balls to do it too
Yes. Yes it absolutely was. You have almost 14000 posts on an internet message board. I have a sizable fraction of that number. Clearly, we both have plenty of free time to pursue outside interests. "Incendiary," yes? So, admittedly, you throw a fire bomb into a memorial, and expect others not to react negatively? In declaring "good riddance," you don't mention any of the substance of the man, who for almost five decades often led the fight on policies and rights which as a nation we all enjoy. As a congressional candidate, do you disagree substantively with the policies Kennedy fought tooth and nail to pass, or can you really reduce the man to one night's automobile accident? And if we are only to judge a person based upon one night of his life, based upon one wrong turn, I would seriously ask you, from that extremely limited perspective, to reconsider the worst nights of your own life.
I guess I'm not paying attention because I don't see those pile-ons. I do see pile-ons for posts of idiocy.
No, it wasn't. I'd like you to find a history book in Texas that had that in the 90's. I have no respect for the man. Period. Once again, you aren't changing my mind about the guy. Move on.
Sad that a thread paying a few respects to this public servant becomes, as Sam predicted, another type of mathematical proof that: for posts --> infinity fatty = (triumph the insult comic dog) / comic
Summarized: You admit you know basically nothing about the man. And yet, you don't respect him and nothing can change that. So basically, you are enjoying wallowing in ignorance.
How many "Burn in Hell Ronnie" posts were there back in the day? And Ronnie didn't DUI/manslaughter anyone. Like Fatty - I didn't really care much for Kennedy either. He did pretty much kill someone (albeit not intentionally) and was known for his philandering, etc. By all accounts, he didn't even attempt to save the woman. One of the best examples of privilege (and abuse) there is. Does a lifetime of "public service" make up for it? I don't think so. First of all, it's not really "public service". How many of you would consider Dick Cheney's tenure as VP as 8 years of "public service"? Kennedy was a politician - and did it personal glory (as all politicians) - not because of some saintly sense of duty or penance. Whenever some politician opens their mouth and says "public service", it makes me laugh. Would I feel differently if he was more of a conservative? Of course. I'm a hypocrite just like everyone else and will overlook flaws for the guys on "my side". We all hated Artest until he was a Rocket. To single out Fatty ain't right.
Inaccurate, but everything else in your post is fair. As I posted earlier, I fully supported Kennedy politically, but I'm not opposed to criticizing public figures when they die; it's really the only time their activities are relevant enough to discuss again.
Speak for yourself...I hated the Kings, not Ron Artest! You could still not be very fund of Democrats and still admire a lot of the work Teddy Kennedy did as a Politician as well imo.
So fatty, had you not discovered Senator Kennedy's terrible mistake in regards to the death of Mary Jo Kopechne, would you feel any different? By the way, other obscure news items or names from 1969 that you might be interested in looking up on Wikipedia: Neil Armstrong or moon landing Charles Manson Vietnam Woodstock Golda Meir Altamont PLO
No... you confuse incendiary with idiocy and your view is very much like a lot of conservatives who think freedom of speech means you can spout any kind of nonsense and people have to respect your "opinion." You're free to say what you want, but I do not have to accept it and am free to point out why you're wrong. There was this guy named Thomas Jefferson and a few others like him who wrote a bit on this issue, but since they were before Duran Duran and wine in a box, you may not have knowledge of their ideas. As far as this thread goes, I also think there's nothing wrong in offering critiques of public people, particularly elected officials during or after their life, but before you do, you should know a little of what you're talking about. When you proudly proclaim your obviously intentional ignorance, don't be surprised if people call you on it. Fat, drunk, and stupid is no way to go through life son.
