who is kennedy going to be suspended by, the president? as i responded to basso, take it up with the people and state of mass as far as him getting off
edit: I can see where you would say I'm in the group criticizing fatty but I'm not edit: fatty did write "good riddence"
I'm not saying you have. I used your post to respond to instead of quoting every single person who said anything. Notice I didn't call you out in my post at all. I said that Bush's indiscretions have come up in the past. I didn't say you brought them up. Your post is just representative of numerous other posts in this thread and I intended to speak about it in general terms which is why I chose the words I did. EDIT: I'm not defending FFB's use of "good riddance" just defending his point that this is absolutely a big issue that shouldn't be brushed aside just because he happens to share the political views of a lot here. I even stated that I thought it was a sad day and that Senator Kennedy fought hard in the ways he thought would make the country better.
Wow, just move on and stop lumping people. you chose my post, I have more justification responding to you than you did to me. what a joke of a qualification now. so my statement "frustrated you" but it was just an abstract example
I chose your post because of the wording that it should have been forgotten about 30 years ago pretty much mirrored what everyone else was saying about it. I didn't agree with that. However, I didn't respond by calling you out in particular. I understand that by using your post you might feel that way and my language probably justified that assumption. However, now that I've explained myself I hoped you would at least try to understand.
i'm not about to argue with a kid. I usually ignore you, but since you responded to me I have to say that you generally don't add to the discussion. don't be offended, I don't think I would have at your age
first off, you ignore me because I'm only 20? You're pathetic. I hardly post in here because I can't stand all the jackass posters in this part of clutchfans. What the hell do you add to the discussion? The line I quoted you on showed how little you contribute to threads like these. Get off your high horse
so lets go back to your original response, were you okay when people harped on bush's alleged cocaine abuse, because it seems to me you were criticizing that, therefore calling people hypocritical
Obviously his drinking problem is not a good thing, but it is common. However he took someone's life away from them by the way he acted and proceeded to show little remorse directly after the incident. Did I have problems with both Bush and Obama's alleged cocaine use? Sure. It showed some questionable decision making, however they did not let their personal poor choices affect the life of another person.
Nah, I never called anyone out on that I think. As far as I remember, of course. I only bring it up now because if it's OK to talk about it 30 years later in that case it should be OK to talk about this which, I think, is a more serious offense.
Just watching a retrospective -- I forgot that Ted was in a plane crash and broke his back. Unreal the Kennedy family's involvement in tragedies and unfortunately scandals -- truly the end of an era with his death. The torch has been passed.
Come on, man, open a history book every once in a while. No one's asking you to read up oh Preston Brooks' batting stance, or about men in w(h)igs dueling over one another's honor. But an ignorance of our basic, collecive history of at least the last half-century is not something to brag about, on the internet or anywhere else. At least build up to a working history. My suggestions of topics to bone up on, before delving back into a thread to further besmirch Ted Kennedy's memory: civil rights Vietnam War opposition Iraq War opposition end of the draft end of US support for apartheid Patriot Act / government surveillance Borking / opposition to judicial nominees HUD ADA OSHA Special Olympics S-CHIP 18-year-old voting age Voting Rights Act immigration reforms minimum wage hikes Medicare Medicaid public school standards Except for, you know, the hundreds of thousands of people who've died in Bush's elective war. I tend to prioritize that over the accidental death of a passenger in a car crash in which the driver was also almost killed. Did her death meet the legal definition of vehicular manslaughter? Possibly, though Kennedy wasn't charged. Was he legally impaired by alcohol at the time? Possibly, though we cannot know. (Interestingly, it would be fun to cross-reference this thread with the one a few months back when the college footballer walked away from his car crash. Which holds sway: political party or college alumni association?) Did Kennedy avoid notifying the police and go to bed soon after because he was indeed concused, or because he wanted to sleep one off? Again, no one knows. Though we do know that because of the event, Kennedy almost certainly missed his chance at the presidency, and the nationwide enaction of truly liberal policies. What is, I think, more important than Kopechne's accidental death (Kennedy's fault or no), or (as I'm sure it will be brought up) cheating on a Spanish test or purported marital infidelity: the hundreds of millions of people who have been demonstrably helped by Ted Kennedy's actions in the Senate. “For all those whose cares have been our concern, the work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives, and the dream shall never die.” ----------- I'll make a deal, in terms of ideological sides & hypocrisy: when Robert Byrd dies later this year or next, I'll be the first one back in here urinating all over his grave. Until then, leave Teddy alone!
