discount is still too much. Right now I have ZERO cell phone bill but I have to go with T-mobile. if the phone is going to have a GSM cousin though then I'll definitely wait.
Apple had no choice. OS X was not originally designed for this sort of thing, and besides the limited processing power, they already had significant battery life issues. You solve those problems by redesigning from the ground up to be efficient. The processor in the new Pre is a brand new OMAP chip from TI that provides laptop-like performance (I work at TI ... I had heard about this chip but I didn't know it was going to make a splash like this). They're claiming this phone will be able to run 15-20 apps simultaneously and quite comfortably...and Palm has typically had superior battery performance to most other smartphone manufacturers, so I'm sure that won't be a problem either.
Call Sprint and ask about a corporate discount. My company is not affiliated with Sprint at all and Sprint gave me a 15% "corporate discount" across the board.
I know...very hard to complain about not having to spend 70-100 bucks a month for a cell phone bill. I'm spoiled that way. Phone is very nice though. The keyboard and stereo bluetooth were one of few things keeping me from getting an unlocked iphone.
Hold that thought! MacRumors is reporting that Apple is apparently working on a new iPhone equipped with Quad-Core processors. Not even iMac's have quad-core processors.
Okay, I'm having trouble with the "wireless" charging concept. Does this just mean you can remove the battery, put it in a charger and still have the phone available if you have another battery? Because I find it hard to believe they've managed a way to convince electrons to leap through the air from a power outlet or USB connection and recharge this phone. So what does wireless charging really mean?
I think it looks and sounds pretty sweet. It's got a lot of power packed into it, and hopefully being built from the ground up hopefully means performance doesn't take a hit. I wonder if it comes in time to help Palm from the downturn they've been having for a while now. Unfortunately it's Sprint only, and I really wonder what they are going to price it at. Their comments could mean that they go around the 200 dollar range (and not 'less' than the iPhone's 199) but I feel like we are probably looking at a considerably higher tag. Palm has always had great app support, but I'm not sure how well they will use the 'app store' type model that most people are gravitating toward. App support in that sense is not the sure bet one would hope it would be. Nice.
So here's an account from someone who was at the launching event, posted at myTreo.net forums... [ Original Link ]
This is like combining a mobile phone/OS company that should've been dead with a wireless provider that should've been dead. Sounds about right! I don't think it looks that great, but the features seem pretty awesome, but there's no way I'm going to go with Sprint as a provider. I still think my next phone may be a Windows Mobile phone unless Apple improves the iPhone or there's something that much better out there in another 1-2 years when my contract is up.
GSM? EDGE? sounds like i need to get my hands on an unlocked one of these in the future. Too bad it's not 3G. Now that t-mobile has 3G that would have been nice. .
JeopardE, i was about to jump to the iPhone, but this multi-tasking issue is one of the things giving me reason to pause. unfortunately (or fortunately), i have AT&T, so i can't yet get the Palm Pre. are there any other phones, like this one, that have better multitasking than the iPhone?
AFAIK, no. The Pre will be the first smartphone to offer this. It's one of the reasons I want it so bad. Imagine being able to control the music player/flip to the next song while playing a game of chess or surfing the web. This phone has the potential to completely destroy as much productivity as it potentially creates.
i don't know why i need to run more than one application on a 3.5" screen? I guess it's neat that it does that but am i missing something? does it really have flash ability, meaning you could watch any streaming video other than youtube?
