    @Jontro
    The first thing AI should do is fire everybody working on the Blade movie and then the AI could write us a good Blade movie that isn’t woke garbage

    This was given a week before the rollout of GPT-4. Watch this in bits and pieces. Maybe in the crapper because some slides will make you **** your pants.

    I hate giving cliff notes rather than watching the whole vid but 43:01 has a couple slides that perfectly fit within this debate.

    Desirable or not, a slow-down or pause on AI development is not achievable so why bother trying? And no real progress on safeguards can be achieved in 6 months anyway. Even if we could enforce a pause, it'd only strengthen the market advantage of first-movers while doing little or nothing to improve human outcomes in the long run. I think we can throw AI on the pile with climate change, nuclear armageddon, and zombie apocalypse that we can stay up and impotently worry about while we're trying to fall asleep.

    My job is at low risk! :D

    We need legislation to catch up, so many of the social media apps are bad for society.

    We need companies to be responsible for what is posted on their sites.

    Big fan of Tristan Harris. Every one needs to watch this in it's entirety.

    Yeah, that one stuck with me.

    Also AI persuasion and reality collapse.

    I've been laughing like a madman at the gallows at these deepfakes of Biden, Trump, and Obama playing Minecraft and Fortnite and stuff but it's only funny because it hasn't destroyed us yet.

    We're quickly entering 'find out' territory on this '**** around' journey.

    I mean, I'm not prone to doomsday prophecies or quackery beyond some theories of cosmology, but... one gets the feeling that the die has already been cast. People were already ready to leave reality behind, even statements from prominent politicians.

    As a depressed wise man said in 1933: 'You cannot stop a landslide once it has started.'
    As for laughing at deep fakes, yep, I'm also reminded of February 2020. 'Oh damn, that really sucks for those people! Guess I won't be going to that province in China any time soon.'

    Yeah, more focused optimism is needed. Consensus/compromise, cooperation, then action are all incredibly hard and trust-centric but it's still the best possible method to move forward.

    We are very close in danger of giving away more of our agency and self-determination to an unknown unknown because of an inherent distrust or fear of the real things we do know. The timeline of AI's Theory of Mind went from 7 yr old to 9 yr is incredibly fast. Maybe it becomes an all benevolent God "in the long run", but those teen years sound hella Old Testament to me.
