If someone has all this info handy that would be great... Which teams are under the cap and by how much? However this could do as well... Which teams will be able to offer a max contract to a FA? TIA
What will the salary cap be next year? When will we know? Probably around late June/early July. Miami will have about 6 million if they outright renounce Zo. Washington will have about 5 million if Stackhouse doesn't opt out. If he makes that mistake, then 12 million. Denver will have about 18 million. San Antonio will have about 18 million, if Duncan doesn't opt out. It will probably be in his best interest not to do so. The Clippers will have...who knows? Depends on their free agents. I'm not sure about other teams. Maybe someone can post closer numbers. But the only teams that can outright steal away free agents with max offers: Denver and San Antonio.
Best info I could find. Be sure to read the fine print at the bottom! - Definitely: Denver - maybe 2!!! // San Antonio // Utah // LA Clippers Possibly: Miami - close because they have 2 large (Jones, Grant) and a bunch of very small qualifying offer and team options. Orlando - (IMO) depends on how the league handles the Grant Hill thing and whether they take the option on DeClerq . Washington - depends if Stack and Russel take their player options. Atlanta - Theo and Alan Henderson have player opts for $17m and Terry and Glover are QO's while the Hawks have $50m committed. Indiana - if Mercer does not take the $6.8m POpt. NO - no team opt on Courtney Alexander. Some teams are hard to judge because of player options, team options, renouncements, etc. Also remember there is a difference of about a $2-$3m between a max coming off a rookie scale contract and a Kidd-type vet max.
Oh, yeah. *sigh* Utah. I hope only Dre Miller takes their money. I was looking forward to Utah being out of the playoffs.
So we are looking at the following as the major offseason players in the FA market: Defintely or all but def. can offer max contracts: --Utah, SA(1.5? max), Den(1.5? max) Probables and maybes: --Wash (I bet Stack works a wink-wink deal with Wash to bring in another player), Miami (up to 6 mil), NO (though I assume we are talking small $ at most) & Orl Doubtfulls: --Atl (can't imagine Theo not taking that extension $), Ind (even if Mercer declines his option--doutbfull--they have their hands full with their own guys), LAC (like Ind they have their own guys to focus on, plus they just don't spend anyway) Thus I think the big money FA players are for sure Utah, SA, & Denv. Honestly I could see Washington getting into the action for Jermaine or someone like that. Small time players (teams with half max contract potential who would use them) could be Miami, NO, Orl and maybe Ind. Thanks again, revisions of my summary welcome.
