    In a one-game situation anything can happen. Duke with 5-6 McDonald's All-Americans can lose to a team that's division II level in the first round.

    Ehh, idk. The gap between Team USA and the field is a lot bigger than the gap between the two teams in your scenario.

    The reason the US lost in 2004 is because Larry Brown did not want to play his best players who were all young at the time and Larry Brown would rather play old guys rather than lebron, wade, and melo.

    Team USA in 2004 had a lot of problems, but the main issue was Larry Brown trying to force the players to do it "his way, the right way". It was more of a power struggle than an effort to win the gold. LB never got the team to buy what he was selling. It was pathetic to watch. He won his precious power struggle while missing out on the real prize.
