I'm gonna say the correct answer is 11 minutes. The first cut was cut lengthwise down the board and took 10 minutes. The next cut was to cut one of the pieces in half in the perpendicular direction and that I am going to say is 1/10th as long as lengthwise. The correct answer is 11 minutes.

Very poorly worded questions, but regardless that teacher should be revoked.

    15 FTW!!!

    10 min = 2 pieces
    20 min = 4
    30 min = 6

    then 3 pieces = 15 min.

ya'll batches dont want my math skilzz!

Agreed, and I cannot say I am surprised that some of the known idiots of the board (looking at you, BEAT LA) come out in full force on the wrong side of the argument...for a 2nd grade math question .

The number of posts in this thread, given the thread title, is mind boggling.

The grader must be from either Devry or Texas Tech.

How about it must be a black lady with Chocolate labradors, or a teacher selling a tiger, or a tranny-lovin' male?

    I chuckled.

The BaylorBear09 reference gets me every time.

Sure looks like I'm right. I'd get the check mark and you'd get a red X. Where is the parameter that said those pieces have to be the same size? There isn't one.

Yeah you'd get the check mark and I'd get the X because someone who shared your apparent lack of logic and a proper second grade education would be grading the second grade math quiz incorrectly!

    Congratulations are in order?

The parameters are pretty clear. You tried to invent to new parameters to support a baseless position that was not backed up by the question itself, the drawing associated with the question or simple logic. It's OK, everyone embarrassed sometimes, particularly when they try to be contrarian.

You cannot possibly be this arogant.

    As for just,

I wasn't trying to be the contrarian. I arrive to my conclussion on my own just by looking at the question. Not trolling just my opinion.

U wanted to suggest that I was wrong when in fact there is no way for you to prove that I am. I guess ill have to ask jesus up in heaven for the answer while u burn in hell with your "loigic"

While I burn in hell? LOL

And yes, in fact I can prove you were wrong. The answer key was posted and it too lists 20 as the correct answer. I can also demonstrate you are wrong by creating the question in real life terms (though perhaps not using the exact time frames as those are kind of long to cut a board.)

But when you do get to heaven, Jesus will laugh at you for your stubbornness on this easy question where the only people who seem to agree with you are a few message board posters and a volunteer grader who MISTAKENLY graded the quiz.

As I have now posted twice, Rocket River has posted the exact same theoretical solution way before you on this thread.

    http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showpost.php?p=5617835&postcount=27

So not only do you fail, you also do not get points for originality.

Either you plagiarized RR's solution (which has been addressed already in the thread as well) or you simply did not bother to read the thread (more likely).

You also ignore everything that was posted to address your suggested solution, as well as the fact that the official answer key has been posted and contradicts your suggestion.

And again, this solution requires you to change the facts of the question.

The "If she works just as fast..." statement in the question is there to indicate that the amount of time per cut is a constant, otherwise you could argue that the third piece is just a splinter that she cut off and the correct answer would be 10 minutes and 15 seconds.
