Sorry to say, that was my first thought as well. Yes, he could be a simple stalker with her being a blameless victim. But with teachers sleeping with students so frequently lately, I wouldn't be surprised if they were doing the dirty on the side.

MyFoxBoston.com reported Wednesday night that Chism admitted to police that he had followed Ritzer into a women's bathroom at the school, punched her in the face, and slashed her throat with a box cutter. Chism then put the teacher's body in a recycling bin and brought it to the woods near the school.

I understand he is only 14, but if he did that I don't think there is any hope for him. This sounds like a brutal murder.

Actually these sort of things are happening less often since the murder rate has dropped a lot in the last 20 years.

    Wow.

Brutal. What in the world was the motive here.

Still waiting to hear what his motives are. :( Sad stuff.
Good stuff, but... for what area are these statistics: USA, Massachusetts, Boston?

Well, admittedly without knowing many details of the case, I was referring not to murder in general, but to seemingly unusual circumstances such as in cases like this..... young kid murdering a seemingly very nice teacher while at school.

I guess the ultra-violence in a school was my point there, but really we don't know much else at this point.

Yes, which is why it's a little bit unsettling and a shock that this occurred at a high school and the murder suspect is a 14 yr old boy.

Good God. How does a 14 year old even know how to act in that manner? What kind of stuff was he exposed to? That's brutal and horrifying.

Might sound stupid but what do you think if they put metal detectors in schools?

It doesn't sound stupid... it's just too expensive. Crazy peeps or kids will still try to find a way to get past them. Here we go with the D&D thing... send it off...

You can probably get a box cutter from the janitor's room or maybe an art room. A lot of things found inside the school can be used as weapons.

A killer wants to kill . . they will fine a way

I think the means is not the issue

The issue is the WHY . . .
Find out the reason why these people kill and remove it

    perhaps stop it

This is one of those "I wanted to see what it would feel like" or "the voices told me to do it" killers. It's horrible she probably suffered.

Ugh - this guy will get out of jail some day, that is despicable, sometimes the old ways are better, the cost of a bullet is cheaper than the cost of keeping this despicable person alive in prison.
