But there is a very important difference between letting her off the hook after she dodges it and what actually happened:

It's one thing for a right wing political figure to just dodge the gay question by throwing out some standard BS (like "I believe in the Bible, but I don't judge and it's not the focus of what we are trying to do to with America...."), it's quite another to show on national TV that a right wing political figure can be so uneasy about addressing the issue that she chose to walk off the damn set.

The difference between these two is pretty damn significant and that's what the news is about.

Here's the title of a blog entry about this event by an editor of the Atlantic Monthly: "This Culture War Is Over: We Win."

I think the title is pretty appropriate. I also don't think you get this title if O'Donnell is just let off the hook.

Dumb is dumb... not a lot you can do to change it. Doesn't mean dumb can't be influential, but it is still dumb. and she's dumb.

He should have asked her what she would like to talk about exactly then if she refuses to talk about gay marriage or other controversial issues.

He could have worked with her - if she said its all about the constitution and blah blah he could have cornered into responses with example. Multiple ways to expose her.

Saying he "harassed" her about masturbation is like saying Karl Ravech is "harassing" Tim Lincecum when he asks him about pitching. The entire reason O'Donnell became famous in the first place was her stance on sex and masturbation. She shouldn't be surprised or evasive when people ask her about the very topic she's tried to bring attention to for YEARS.

Her statement says it all: "I obviously want to talk about the issues that I choose to talk about in the book." Well, sorry sweetie: that's not an interview, that's a press statement. An interview is where you voluntarily put yourself on the spot and answer the questions that are put to you or suffer the consequences for not answering (i.e. - looking like a petulant child and storming off the set).

I mean, really... She says "I want to talk about what's in the book!"

He says "Do you talk about gay marriage in the book?"

She comes back with "What relevance is that now?"

Now she's claiming that she didn't walk off because of the gay marriage question, but rather because of a line of "creepy sex questions" prior to that.... presumably she meant the masturbation question.

So is "gay marriage" a part of the "creepy sex question"? I doubt the same-sex couples getting married think of their marriage as "creepy sex ceremony" rather than something having to do with, you know, starting a family.

If not, then why did she walk off right after the non-creepy non-sexy same-sex marriage question instead of after the prior questions?
