What is the downside? I don't know much about unions living in Texas but i was looking up some data from a quick search on the issue and the data seems to support more upside for right to work states. [lower unemployment & cost of living vs higher wages] Is that a wrong conclusion?

"I don't know much about unions living in Texas" - This is key...

We live in a country were wages are going down, people are working two jobs and benefits are becoming harder and harder to keep..... so ripping labor unions, fighting against raising taxes on the rich is a losing situation. Then having some prick come and bait blue collar workers is not going to play well, many people will feel for the workers.......

I'm all for this. I don't automatically hate unions but I don't believe in pay to play and that is what forced union dues are.

Yeah, the funny thing about unions is that they kind of predate the whole non-violent protest methods that Gandhi and King implemented; even though they're every bit as legitimate, effective and probably more influential over time.

I don't know how much this actually weakens Unions. They'll have to make some changes to keep membership at an influential number, but if they do that they may end up with more influence than they have now.

In a just nation, every industry would have a strong but voluntary union. That sort of thing is growing increasingly necessary as more and more wealth gets concentrated in a smaller and smaller percentage of the population.

I'm totally for Right-To-Work laws. Even though I'm a liberal, my position on unions is that of a very conservative Republican.

    Here are some facts.

1.The average worker in states with "right to work" laws makes $1,540 a year less when all other factors are removed than workers in other states.
    2. Median household income in states with these laws is $6,437 less than in other states ($46,402 vs. $52,839).
3.In states with "right to work" laws, 26.7 percent of jobs are in low-wage occupations, compared with 19.5 percent of jobs in other states.

Are you sure about who provoked whom? Which group was tearing down the other's tent? Which group does NOT have a right to be there?

How much money is at play here? How much are typical union dues-- if there is such a thing? I heard a fireman in Indiana today say that he paid a couple of hundred dollars per month in union dues.... and he was going to quit it.

Then that fireman should voluntarily lower his salary and benefits the amount gained by Union bargaining. He should give it all back since he doesn't support the organization that got him his wage, and benefits. He shouldn't be entitled to that wage.
