Where did I say they couldn't say it? All I said was that they have been saying it. It's mainly Aggies and Cougars saying it because they were touting the Coogs as the best team in Texas for the first part of the season but the Coogs lost and so they switched to saying TCU was the best team in Texas. By every measurement, Texas has played a better season against a better schedule so in my opinion (which is probably biased, I admit) they are the better team. TCU can claim all they want but when you have two undefeated teams, the one with the better schedule is more impressive, I think. As far as a playoff goes, a playoff crowns a champion. It does not always crown the best team. You also act like this is a new thing with the BCS. You do realize that before the BCS we wouldn't even get UT vs. Alabama right? It's highly likely that all 4 undefeateds would play someone different. The BCS was designed to pit the two best teams in a championship game.
Chris Myers just spoke to Patterson before the game and said this was the most important game in school history. I guess Myers forgot about the two sugar Bowl wins that gave TCU the national championship. I'm glad Patterson told him he wasn't sure this game was the biggest in school history. I sure miss the SWC.
Didn't they award national titles before bowl games back then? If so, the Sugar Bowls those years would really have just been exhibition games, FWIW.
The wire services started awarding national championships in 1936. The AP awarded TCU the national championship in 1938. TCU also recognizes a statistical poll for their 1935 championship, but I can see where some may dispute this award.
Oh definitely. But for example, one of Texas' national titles came in a year they lost their bowl game - because the AP (or whomever at the time) awarded their national title after the regular season but before the bowls. So the bowls would basically be glorified exhibition games and not affect the national titles.
As much as you post about them now, it's going to be pretty amazing whenever you finally get there... you might give DD a run for his money
Kellen Moore having to throw the ball further than 10 yards is an abortion - that was an easy 6 he just blew.
I think it was after 1964. Alabama voted national champs, while Arkansas finished #2. Both were undefeated at the end of the regular season. Alabama lost to Texas (I think) in the Sugar Bowl, while Arkansas beat Nebraska (I think) in the Cotton Bowl. Arkansas had already defeated Texas earlier in the year. Arkansas still claims a national championship.
Maybe being on campus and immersed in all things UT will help him not give up on the team when they have a lead in a game. God I remember my 1st year was Vince's 1st as a starter and there were a good number of games that we were losing and even losing by a lot before we came back and won.
Not sure, but Texas won one in 1970 where they lost the bowl game after they were named national champs.
I hope they get a little more love than they have. Hell, I still feel Kellen Moore deserved to go to NYC. I know his opponents weren't the best, but his TD-INT ratio has been sick this year.
