Attendance and ratings are going to be horrible for this game. No one wants to see TCU vs. Boise, and no one really cares who wins that (except their fan bases). They wanted to see those teams against the big names to see if they could beat them. TCU vs. Florida and Boise vs. Cinci would have both been bigger draws than either Cinci vs. Florida or Boise vs. TCU.
LOL. Crap teams get crap. Play real teams. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/B5XHxqL1p0g&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/B5XHxqL1p0g&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
Just like when Boise St played and beat OU. Cincinnati didn't exactly play in the toughest conference either.
TCU is gonna rock that ***. TCU is underrated, i bet they could play with the elite teams (FLA, TEX, ALA)... but i don't know much about BS, but i know they beat a good ORE team this year.
The whole bowl thing(even before the BCS when bowls just picked schools based on conferences) is the biggest reason why I just can't really get into college football. Anybody can tell me why Boise St. vs TCU is the best matchup for the BCS? Do they really have to protect the big conferences and just pretend that non-BCS teams don't exist or something?
The Bull Crap System at its best. Texas pulls a '97 Nebraska to beat Nebraska. And this is the best we get? Cinncinati and Alabama should be playing.
I'm not a TCU fan but they really did get screwed. As far as their strength of schedule, they have tried feverishly to schedule Major BCS Conference Schools but none will schedule them. Next years game with Arkansas was cancelled by Arkansas and their attempt to schedule a power house fell on deaf ears. Don't blame TCU for their schedule. Also don't you think TCU would except an invitation to join a BCS conference like the Big 12, SEC or ACC in a heartbeat? Of course that will not happen either for money reasons. If I were the Big 12 I would invite them and boot Baylor in a heartbeat. Long story short. TCU would love to play a tougher schedule and deserves to play Florida to prove they do or do not belong. That game would get a lot of attention and a lot of interest but after Boise put beat Zero U and Utah gave Bama an ass whipping last year the BCS is not willing to let that happen. No one really gives a crap about TCU vs. Boise. Two non conference teams playing for what is equivalent to the NIT Championship in Basketball. I'm sure the Fiesta Bowl people are just thrilled about it as well.
The bowl officials get to pick who they want in their game in order of priority - the fact is the Fiesta Bowl had it's conference tie-in team (Texas) go the National Title and basically had to pick what was left over. Nobody wanted to pick Boise State until the end, when it was the Fiesta Bowl's pick, because they don't generate TV ratings or have a huge alumni base. the bowls are in this thing to make money in the end and I don't blame them for that.
Sugar Bowl had the last pick this year. Fiesta got the 2nd pick and the 2nd to last picks. There's no reason they had to get stuck with TCU and Boise. They could have taken Cinci or Iowa with their first pick and then Boise with their second pick - they actually wanted Boise because their fans travelled extremely well last time. The pick order was: Sugar (taking Florida) Fiesta Orange Fiesta Sugar TCU has (by far) the worst fan following, so they would logically be the last team chosen and could have conveniently gone to the Sugar to face Florida.
Not only that, but here's one of the things specifically listed as something for the BCS Bowls to consider when making their picks: C. whether the same two teams will play against each other in a bowl game for two consecutive years; and http://www.bcsfootball.org/bcsfb/eligibility
Whatever, the point is it's not "the BCS" making the picks in order to isolate poor TCU and Boise State as part of some conspiracy, it's the bowl officials. And I read that TCU was not the last team chosen - I can't rmemeber where though.
When people say the BCS did it, this is generally the condition they are referring to: D. whether alternative pairings may have greater or lesser appeal to college football fans as measured by expected ticket sales for the bowls and by expected television interest, and the consequent financial impact on Fox and the bowls. If you look back over the last many years, the bowls don't always follow the "pick order" as though they are independent bowls trying to come up with what is best for them. They do what is best for the system as a whole (in their mind), so that's where the "BCS is trying to screw the smaller schools" thing comes from.
This is why I like the NCAA Basketball Tournament so much...it actually gives the little guys the chance to play for all the marbles.
or the college world series or any other sport in the freaking world. this is the only major sporting event where the champion is crowned arbitrarily. absurdity
Like when? I can't think of too many examples of that happening. The Rose Bowl in particular is very zealous about keeping their big-10 pac-10 matchup irrespective of what the other bowls do. The least-desirable teams generally seem to get picked last, such as the mediocre Pitt team in 2004. NOtre Dame always ends up being the first team taken off the board when they are BCS eligible.
