Yep. The BCS got exactly what it wanted as evidenced by a lot of the immediate responses to the end of this game (which would be directed at BSU, otherwise). This game was an awesome example of CYOA.
Yup. Still, as a TCU grad, Florida would have crushed us. At least The Burbs is on...always good to cheer me up
I can live with the outcome of that FAR more than I could someone telling me that UH was better than Louisville that year so we should just skip them and go straight to the title game against NCSU.
So then, whats the best way to determine the best NFL team?? Why is that any different than determining the best NCAA division 1 program?
Like I said. Even if I had to chose between 99% crap and 98% crap, I'll take the 98 under any circumstances... This whole "but it is NEVER perfect" argument is a load of garbage, what kind of defeatist attitude is that? Just because there's a scuff on a diamond ring you throw it out? WTF?
Do you think a champion should be the best team in the league? EDIT: Just read your above post. Fair enough. I don't think either is ideal. I just don't think that a playoff is necessarily a better method of determining a champion. It's actually a fairly North American concept.
What is this "the BCS" you refer to - is it the officials who run the Bowl games? the Conference commissioners of the Auto bid conferences? the "BCS executive director" guy who they hired this year? All of the above. BCS conspiracy theorists need to identify the conspirators, the BCS is more of a mechanism than an actual organization (until they hired that dude this year).
I think the champion should be the team that wins the tournament. Like just about all other team sports in the country.
In part, it's much easier to do it in the NFL because there are far less teams. Could you imagine if there were 120 teams in the NFL? If you applied the same ratio of teams in the NFL playoffs to 120 team league, you'd have 48 spots.
The BCS = the powers that be in keeping this BullS*** system in place instead of proving who the best teams are on the field.
They ARE determining who the best teams are on the field. You're just quibbling about how many teams should be in the tournament. There are 2 now and you want more. How many teams should have a "shot" in a playoff?
Heck, I think almost all fans could accept 4 or 8 or even 6 with 2 byes competing for it. At least the teams with legit claim to being the best get a shot. Sorry, if you are BCS #9 you probably lost too many games to have a legit claim.
So you're saying at least 1/3 the teams in the NFL playoffs should have no legit claim at having a shot to win the title?
